No luck in search so here goes: Why is a ground strap connected to the pcv valve? The wire its grounded to is fairly large in gauge,so I'm assuming correctly that its grounded, yes or no,why? The reason I ask is would like to get rid of it for a smooth run when I put in a catch can.
That's what I thought when I first saw it. Actually, it's a heat sink.
You are 100% correct. It is actually designed to transfer heat from the motor to the PCV valve in order to prevent it from icing shut during the winter.
It IS NOT a ground strap..
What?Oh well a Red Sox fan ,that explains it,he likes the wrong color Sox.Seriously now,if its a heat sink why the insulated wire? Then I presume ,since I only run my car in non-freezing weather I can do away with it?Its kind of a nuisance when trying to put on a catch can & a G3 filter to get it all to conform, with this little bugger in the pcv gromet.

It is there to transfer heat from the block to the valve, but to help eliminate condensation, i.e. evaporate it from the oil.
