I hit a pot hole in my 2000. I now need to replace both right side tires. The car has 22,000 miles and I figure I will just bite the bullet and do all four. The question is, do I go with the OEM tires if I can find them are is there a better tire at a better price avaliable out there now. I have been quoted $300 each for OEM thru a friend of mine that has a body shop. Also should I only go for runflats or are people doing OK on regular tires? Any thoughts or experience would be appreciated. Thanks Bill
Do a search, there are many opinions for this topic. I recommend you stay with a run flat / Zero Pressure Tire. I went with Michelin Pilot Sport ZP tires on my 01 Coup and am happy with them. They are much quieter then the OEM tires.

Glad to see your comment. I am considering the same tires for my '98. Now for big story. Went to Costco today to get estimate. They have the tires and their price, installed w/road hazard, is very good. I asked if they could do job without damaging wheel or sensor and was told yes. Another tech looked at my wheels (stock alloy) and said "no, we can't put the Mich ZP s on there. They have an inner pack, like an innertube, if you will, and we can't put them on there". Tech states he just got back from a seminar at Michelin and they said "the ZP tire couldn't be mounted on the Vette run-flat rim". Tech told me I would have to go back to the dealer and buy a "tire/wheel package" from the dealer. Where do they get this marlarkey???
I told the tech I thought he was sadly mistaken but he insisted that's what Michelin said. He then told me that there was a difference between a "run-flat" and the Mich ZP. I told him I had checked prices, etc., at 2 other tire dealers and no one else came up with this "Vette Dream". At that point I decided that I should get in my car and peddle away.
Is the world spinning backwards or what??

This sort of repair comes to my shop often. (Corvette Care, Columbus, OH) The inside edge of the wheel has no spokes to support it and it bends easily. As far as tires - Goodyear F1GS D3 is a great tire for C4 and C5's. Most customers call back with very positive comments about how well the car handles and how smooth the ride is!
I just ordered a set of Michelin Pilot Sports A/S ZPs and they should be installed this week.
Never heard about any problems mounting them on standard C5 wheels with standard C5 pressure sensors.
I did hear that the Michelin tire bead is a little different (thicker) - but that was the only difference.
I installed Michelin Pilot ZP's in October, replacing the OEM GY RF and have been very satisfied with no problems. In fact, I think the MIchelins are top notch!!!

LAUGH-A-DAY UPDATE: During the above conversation, I told Tech I would get new sensors for them to install with new tires because old batteries were nearing the end of approx 7 yr life.
Today, Tech called me. Said they rechecked w/Michelin and "yes" they could put zp's on my car. Then I heard another Tech in the background say "I checked with the "dealership" and there aren't any batteries in the sensors".
Wouldn't you just be bursting with confidence to have these folks work on your car????

One concern I have of using non-run flat tires with pressure sensors, is in the event of a flat, and the car is in motion, I think the sensor will get damaged from the collapsed tire.
This is what your "tech" was talking about http://www.familycar.com/CarCare/RunFlatTires.htm The michelin run flats on the new oddesy's have a inner liner. When they get a flat you bring it to the dealer, the swap the whole rim and tire with a new one, they send yours out to get refurbished with a new tire. Its nice if you curb rash your rims because they give you a new one As far as the batterys he probly ment that their was no replacible ones. You have to change the whole sensor. So he wasin't a complete idiot, just confused on the style of run flat you wanted

Thanks for the input. That's a very interesting article. I think you're right. He said he just came back from a seminar at Mich, so I guess he had PAX on the brain, when I spoke with him.

I have over 60,000 on a set of Michelin A/S ZPs on my 99.
They are just getting close to the wear marks. Just GREAT tires!
Best thing I've done to the car.
They made a world of difference from the Goodyear EMTs - like driving a different/new car.
Find a competent tire place and get the Michelins. You can always check EBay – I think there is a new pair of 245/45/17s for sale now (save some $)
