Default Crane rocker arm disassembly help

I have my old heads off the car and when I pulled the rockers, the studs came with them. The problem now is the jam nut and adjusting nuts are locked together. So far, I have broken four 3/16 allen wrenches and have tried jam nuts on the metric side of the stud, not luck at all. Since this will be an issue for future spring maintenance, I am seriously thinking of just returning the to stock rockers as much as I hate to.

Anyone run into this and know a sure fire solution?

Haven't run into it but you may try heating it up a bit.

Have you tried backing off the adjusting nut first, leaving the lock nut alone?

In the future, to make the adjustment and hopefully disassemble easier, have the studs ground flat on the surface that the jam nut contacts. this makes the jam nut seat squarely, hold better but also doesn't allow it to grip "high spots"

Hope that helps and works out for you,

Charlie

Thanks. I have tried only moving the nut with jam nuts on the other end of the stud. That didn't work. I will look into grinding them flat (if I use them again). Guess I will need to order the Snap On stud collet for my stud removal tool, that should hold it tight enough to get them apart.

Thanks for the tip.

Just in the way of a follow up. The Snap-On tool got them apart in seconds. They are now in the new Dart heads and will be installed this weekend.

Cool!!!

Are you doing 1.7's or 1.8's? If the 1.8's are available, wanna trade something?

Arnel,

Right now I am going to put in the 1.7's and see how it goes. Not sure I want to part with the 1.8's for the time being, as I may put them back in later

And if you are going to work on yours, these Snap-On tools are the greatest thing since sliced bread
