I just changed my stock sway bars to the factory Z06 bars........WOW What A Difference!!! I thought it ran on rails before, but this is Awesome!! I have the F45 suspension and the Z06 bars bolted right on with ease. The new rear bar is essentially the same as the Z51 suspension package (w/ plastic end links), but the new front sway bar is huge and the metal end links makes for a very positive feel yet is not jarring or too stiff.
:D
Hey Now:
I also had the stock suspension and went with the Z06 bars an Bilstein Sport Shocks. Great improvement in ride and handling. :yesnod: Would recommend this mod to anyone.
I also have ordered a Z06 front swaybar for my 2000 ht (Z51). This issue may have been covered elsewhere, but please tell me if the links have to be replaced also. I gather that there are plastic as well as metal links? Do I need to worry about this?
Thanks for your input, but I believe everybody here already understands that this is the case. Rather, the question is: is this something to be concerned about (i.e., the difference between the plastic and the aluminum links). If the answer to this question is 'yes,' the further question is 'why, and what is the functional difference?'
The metal links used on the front sway bar of the Z06 provide a more positive connection, thus greater response. The plasic links used with the F45 and the Z51 sway bars are good, but you will lose some of the sway bars effectiveness and potential. Just a note, the rear Z06 sway bar is the same diameter and wall thickness as the Z51 and also uses plastic end links.
I2 - thanks, maybe I will need to order the extra metal links for the front. Of course my Z51 rear bar is the same as the FE4, but are you suggesting that it also will not work right with the plastic links (so need to obtain some metal links for the rear)? If not, just wondering why are plastic links OK for the rear but not for the front?
The front sway takes more stress than the rear in any car, and that additional stress probably is over the threshold for the plastic, so it's handled by the metal link. The rear doesn't need the strength of the metal link, and swapping to metal probably won't provide any noticable benefits.
Sam Lin,
You’re probably right but I’m changing to the aluminum anyway. After running the Sandhills Classic at over 140 on that rough road surface, I think I’d like a little more beef on that rear bar. – C.

Re: Z06 Sway Bars!!!!! (l2vette)
It seems most of you started with the Z51 and then went to Z06... How difficult would it be to go from FE1 to Z06 or Hotchkis? Prolly do sway bars and shocks (but wouldn't coil-overs be fun?)... Thoughts?
Umrswimr.........
All the sway bars for the C5 (including Z06) are interchangeable with no mods required, direct bolt on. Check out some of the other threads regarding shocks and coil overs.
I have the FE1 suspension and am interested in upgrading. I am familiar with the rear bar, but not with the front. Does anyone have instructions/pictures of "how to do"
