pull the plug on the ebcm, it has a cam lock, clean and reseat

Your going to need to remove the main plug on the EBTCM, inspect the plug and connector, clean it with contact cleaner and reinstall it. It is secured in place with a plastic security pin on top of the plug that needs to be removed first. Once the plastic pin is removed, the plug is removed by lifting up on the cam lock handle which will retract the plug from the module. That is the very first troubleshooting step. Depends on when your 98 was built, 97 and early 98's had the EBTCM mounted on the back of the differential. The later built 98's had the EBTCM mounted in the engine compartment, drivers side between the engine and the radiator. Just look for the rats nest of brake lines and you will find it!
I would also make sure that the battery is properly charged/good and that the battery cables are clean and tight. Torque the battery cables on the battery terminals to 11 ft/lbs. You will be amazed at all of the STRANGE things that the battery and cables can cause!!
There have been two or three forum members in the past couple of months that had the same problem and the battery/cables were the problem!!
