Default Column Lock Help!

Hey guys. Yesterday, I finally experienced the joys of column lock and thus had to have my '00 towed to the dealership. Now here's the problem, I informed them (the searvice department) that there was a recall on the problem and so it would obviously need to be taken care of by them. Well they just called me today and said that there was "No recall, and the recall had already been done". Now I don't know how the recall could have already been done if there was "no recal" according to him. My question is, what should I do? Don't they have to fix my column lock on them since there was indeed a recall regardless of what the dealership says??

Thanks

I never got notification of the newest recall, because I had the previous one done. I contacted the Chevrolet Customer Assistance Center at 1-800-222-1020, and they said I didn't need the new one done. I told them I was still getting the message/problem, and they contacted my local dealership and set something up. Turns out that they WILL do the recall on your car on a case by case basis, even if you did have the previous recall done. The service manager at your dealership sucks, and is lazy. Ask to speak to the owner of the dealership, and explain what I just told you, as well as call GM at the number above.

We did the recall for the second time on Lead Foots car. (Hi Kelvin). When you talk to the Manager od Advisor let them know that you are getting the "pull key/wait 10 seconds" message on the DIC. The new recall is 04006C, which actually has been revised twice since it's inception a couple years ago. They will need to perform the new version and remove the plate this time. We have done a BUNCH of these since the new version came out and have gotten every one paid by GM. The dealership can contact me if they need assistance. PM me if that is needed and I'll give you the phone # and contact info. RICH

i had recall #04006 done last week on my 1997 along with the harness k install and lock plate removed and as soon as I put the key in I get the pull key message. When I tried to move it shut off the fuel. Is the recall #04006C a different one? What will my dealership do now? I called the 800 cust assistance center and they gave me a file number and told me take back to the dealer. I hope I will get a new actuator from a 2004 model.

Hi, Rich, glad to see you chime in here, because it sounds like the original poster's car has already been towed into the dealership, so I can't understand what the SM over there is thinking. I mean, it's obviously displaying a problem, so what the ? Maybe you can offer additional advice to the poor forum member who's getting the run around around here.

This sort of sh*t is unbelievable. Talk about the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing. Why is it so difficult for some of these dealerships to follow instructions and know what is going on??? I guess they just don't give a damn.

Are you kidding me? You had the EXACT same problem I had. But, I think you're mistaken here, because from what you describe as the recall work done is actually from the the 04006C (latest campaign), as 04006 did NOT remove the plate, or maybe you have an A4? In either case, I'd be interested in seeing if they remove the harness K and swap aout the actuator, like RichieRichZ06's dealership did on mine. FWIW, I haven't seen the message, nor has my fuel shut off, since. Now, where's the fingers crossed emoticon when you need it?

This is the good part. Dealerships actually get paid by the factory to perform the work. So, if I was the manager there, I'd do whatever I could to help the customers, wouldn't you? So, I don't think it's a matter of the "right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing". It really sounds like these types of places have managers that are really not very bright. And, that means the owners of places like these probably aren't very smart, either, if they don't know that their people are turning away revenue.

I mean, look at guys like RichieRichZ06. He's a parts manager, so he doesn't control what happens in the service department, yet, he made an offer on this forum to help us with our column lock issues, right? Guess what that means? He helps get us into his dealership, we get taken care of, they get paid for the work from GM, and he's just helped his dealership get more exposure to people who otherwise would not even think of taking their car to a dealership, right? Well, Rich has provided his service department the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities, and because of his efforts, and the abilities of the techs there, everybody wins. I'm happy because I was taken care of, and now know of a place I can go to that I know is capable when I need something in the future, Rich looks good for bringing in business, and the service department gets paid for the recall work, plus here I am pretty much promoting Woodard Chevrolet for them!

So, what the he|| is wrong with that dunce over at the obviously a Chevrolet dealership in San Diego? Is he just plain stupid, or what? Because this doesn't require a degree to figure this stuff out, it's all just plain common sense. Well, maybe sense isn't so common.

saniterium92128, go ahead and print my post here and give it to the owner of the dealership, if you like!

I have a 6 speed. My invoice shows the following:
V1144 recall#04006 ignition harness
8357 warr
89023816 harness K
remove lock plate and install harness and relay.

Based on that description, they did do the correct procedure. However, GM has had a ton of problems with a bad relay right out of the box. There is two options now: #1. Install another relay and hope it works.
OR #2. Have the dealership call Tech Assist and tell them the problem. The absolute correction is to have them install the late 2004 lock actuator to cure this. The 2004 actuator never had a problem like the others. We have done this, but ONLY under orders from tech assist. I would go about doing it this way. Like I said before I am more than happy to inform other dealers about the road we have had to travel to get the knowledge on this recall and the good outcomes we have had.

Thanks for the replies. When I get back from vacation next week I will take it to the dealer and let you know what I find out. I'm sure they will put in a new relay. Getting a new actuator might happen after another relay failure.

Ok, I just talked to them again, and told them about the latest recall #. Now they are telling me that it turns out that all of the recalls have been done to the car already (I bought it used from them about 4 months ago). So now they need to look at it and find out what the problem is this time, but they will not do a recall fix again on my car on them. I will need to pay for it. Luckilly I still have full warranty on her.

We've been trying to tell you that the latest recall is FAILING. Read the posts above, and what RichieRichZ06 has been saying. GM will pay for a fix for the recall that's failing, but your dealership may not know this. Read the posts above again, if you need.

Good luck, because you shouldn't have to pay for this at all, not even a warranty deductible.

Thanks but I have read the posts above. I am still working it out with them and I know I do not need to pay for it. However, as of now, they are saying that they won't. They say they are looking into it so all I can do is wait.

That sucks, doesn't it? I feel for you. But, as long as they are at least looking into it, that's a good sign.

BTW, you didn't specifically say what happened, but did you have fuel shut off? Is that what happened? Because if your car indeed had all recalls done, then the column could NOT have locked, you know what I mean?

I had the original recall done on my '01 NM6 and all as tey did is reflash my computer to shut the fuel off in the event of a lockup. I got a second notice a month ago. It was NOT a recall but a notce that stated they would pay to fix my vette if it should lock up for a number of years. This is BS, so I now have a CLB.

If you only had yor computer flashed it CAN still lock up!

Ok, they called me back after looking into it and found that the recalls were not done correctly so they are going to redo it for me. Looks like it should all turn out ok.
