I'm not sure if this is in the service manuals or not.
I lost 2 within days of each other and I think it was because I tried to put them on too tight.
I just hand tighten them (with the socket & extention) until they are tight. If you go too tight it will pop over the thread and actually be loose again.
I've not lost any since.

Just put 'em on hand tight. If you keep losing 'em, put a dab of blue RTV inside the covers on the threads. It will help hold, but they'll come off easy when you need them to.

whatever your index finger and thumb will give you. ;) I use the lug nut socket on the covers and just tighten until snug. Haven't lost or stripped one yet. Knock on wood. :smash:
