Will needs rotors (front) and pads soon. Like the looks of the Eradi Speeds and Brembo rotors which are drilled. Will NOT be tracking so I am not worried about cracking and high heat.
Any comments from users out there on Brembo, EradiSPeeds or Hawk HPS pads?
After researching this issue for a while now and reading what the tech guru at Road & Track has to say, I decided to get some cryo-slotted rotors from Tirerack. Drilled/cored rotors are not only useless, but they can develop stress crack propogation. Slotted rotors allow the rotor to maintain a cooler temp, but they can also prevent pad buildup and glazing from infrequent use. I've read of many users who had previously had problems with rotors (both OEM and aftermarket) warping or accumulating brake deposits, going 20,000 miles or more with no issues at all using the cryo-treated and slotted rotors. They are not inexpensive at $145 each, but should be much more resistant to warpage or accumulating deposits that cause brake pedal pulsations.
I should have my rotors installed by next weekend. More info to follow.....
For street driving you can use anything. I recommend zinc plated anything from Ebay since they won't rust and mess up your wheels and they're cheap. If you go to the roadracing track, you can use the $100 for all 4 NAPA rotors(good for only 1 day at the track then they must be thrown in the garbage), or good rotors from Stoptech, Wilwood, or other premium brands. Of course the good brakes cost a lot more and will last longer. Only get drilled for the street. Slotted is ok for the track. The forum vendors sell any premium brakes you might want.
I had Baer Eradispeeds and GM ceramic pads on my car. They look awesome and don't crap up the wheel with dust. They were decent around town but as far as actually stopping the car at high speed, they suck. The fade is downright dangerous. They are the automotive equivalent of putting a sock down your pants. Yeah they look like impressive race brakes but they are not race brakes in any sense of the word. My C.A.P. cheapo rotors and pads stop the car much better at track events and on the street without looking like a spider web. The trade off is that they are ugly as sin and rust up immediately while putting dust all over ths wheel. If you want to look cool and not actually be cool, go with the Baers. If you drive the car hard, pass and find something else.
I installed Bear Eradispeed 2-pc front and 1-pc rears with SS lines and Hawk HPS pads, see avatar. Much better bite and look. Low dust, am very happy with the improvement! Mark
I bought mine here http://www.rotorpros.com/ I had them over 4 months and their great, also i purchase steel brake line. they don't have 1000 holes in the rotor.
I have sport brakes rotors. You can get them Slotted, drilled, slotted and drilled, dimpled. They are zinc or cad plated, and are machined from Brembo blanks. I think I paid $250 for all 4.
I've run the HPS pads on a number of cars, they give a bit more bite than the typical stock pad and don't dust up very badly. If you're only driving the car on the street there isn't much need for a pad upgrade. Use whatever doesn't squeek. Track use is a whole different ball game...
