Default Broken seat question

I have a 98 coupe and have broken the piece on the driver's seat that holds the powerseat controls. The plastic piece on the side of the seat. Hope you guys know what I am talking about, if not I can take a pic. Anyways, anybody know where I can order that piece from?

Thanks in Advance!

I order all of my OEM parts from Gene at Fred Beans. They are quick, on top of service, and the price is great.

I had the same problem. Wait until you find out what this plastic piece costs.

Remove the seat, remove the piece, get a short length of carbon fiber tape (radio control model airplane shops probably have it), some JB Weld, and some Goof Off. Clean the back side of the pieces thoroughly with the Goof Off. Mix up JB Weld, about a small marble sized amount of resin and hardener, put a thin coat on the plastic pieces, use a popsicle stick or something to impregnate the carbon fiber tape with the JB Weld, lay the tape over the joined pieces, and then add more JB Weld to the taped joint. It will take a good 4 hours for the JB Weld to harden to the point that you can handle the part safely without rebreaking it. If you can leave the part alone overnight, that is better.

This will make a joint that is stronger than the original material, and if it is like mine and is in the curved portion on the left front corner, will be invisible because the cushion covers the area.

The easeist way that I found is to replace with a new piece. Under $10. I did not remove the seat. A little patience and it can be accomplished in about 20 minutes.

use a really long screwdriver to put in the hole in front and hold it there... then very quickly, pull the driver out and push the screw in the hole, if your hand is steady it should go right in.

BTW, when I replaced mine, I bought it from a dealer for around $7.

Default I'm thinking of the wrong part on the seat

I thought the original post was about the curved decorative black piece that goes all the way around the seat and covers the bottom edge of the cushion. That's a bit more than $10. Sorry for the confusion.

I believe the piece you are talking about is called the bezel. There is a screw in the very front and another behind the seat back lever that holds it on.The power seat control snaps into it from the back. Both the bezel and seat back lever was broken on mine. Went to my local Chevrolet dealer for parts. Bezel was about $8.75 and seat back lever was about $5.50. The replacement piece will have a stub in the middle of the bezel on the backside. It supposedly is there for you to drill another hole to put a screw through to the seat for added strength. However, I didn't see anything solid on the seat for the screw to hold to. So, I did not drill a hole in the bezel and I used a dremel to grind off that middle stub on the backside.

When you replace the seat back lever, just look at the one on the passenger side, position the driver side the same way and push on to the shaft. The c clip on the lever will snap into place.

Cheers

I just replaced mine on my 98 - the front screw is a pain, but other than that no big deal. I bought mine from teh dealer for about $7.

BTW, I didn't have to dremel anything off - the new one will have an extra post w/a clip towards the front. This was an engineering change to increase the strength in this area. There is no hole in your seat for the clip, but it will fit through what I believe is a square hole in the frame w/o mods, and even that should help it from breaking again.

Make sure you use something to line up the front hole for the screw (I used a long skewer) since there is no good way to find the hold for that screw. Should take you no more than a few minutes.
