Looking at a used C5 witj "Ported Throttle Body" and "Throttle Body Bypass". The owner doesn't know much about these mod's. Please provide a little background on these mod's - what is the net effect on performance (acceleration; gas mileage; etc.) - and what is the effect on the long-term reliability of the engine? Thanks.
These two mods are really insignificant when it comes to modding a C5. Neither is good for any increase in hp. The ported TB will give a little better throttle response and that's about it. As for longevity of the engine, again this is isignificant; no change.
hhmm, you should check the other forum. there is a thread about ported tb. people are seeing 10rwhp and 6rwtq on ported tb alone
and as far as longer life dont be so sure, as, an ALUMINIUM block does NOT like the high temps and what some people will do to advoid such a simple fix has always amazed me Its just that there is TOO MUCH imformation out there now relivent to WHY the LS1 was made to run too hot in the first place (skip shift ring a bell???) and remember bottom line is the two most common thiefs of horsepower are,.....HEAT& weight!!
Well regardless of what other people's experience may be, I just put on a Shaner S3 polished and ported throttle body as well as the bypass kit on my Z06 and there is a noticeable SOTP improvement in throttle response. It may be a synergistic effect with the headers installed several weeks ago and the Diablo tune I put in, but FWIW, if I had it to do all over again, YES, I would do it. However I doubt there is anything significant from the bypass itself. But since I had the TB off, and I live in north Florida, I couldn't see any reason why NOT to do it.
