Are 4.11's too much for an M6 street car? Car is 1970 convertible with LS1 and T56. This is a weekend/ fair weather cruiser with no track time. Currently stock LS1 with future mods to only be long tubes and ASA cam.
If your T56 has the same 6th ratio as the Vette 6 speed, you should have a great combo with 4.11's.
I have 4.10's and run a bit over 2200 RPM's at 80mph if I remember right. 1-5 are really close and get the car moving quickly, but I still get good gas mileage in 6th.
Wish they had 6 speeds when I was a kid. I ran a BB 468 with an M21 and 4.11's. I got around 6 mpg..... yuch.
Yup, ratios are the same as the C5's. Thats why I asked here in the C5 section. With the 4.10's do you find yourself spinning the tires much when you take off or when its wet out?
It certainly is a bit harder to get a clean launch w/o spinning the tires. It's not that bad though, but if you had big HP, then I could see it as a problem. My measly 330 rwhp do not overpower the tires too bad.
Not sure about wet weather, it's doesn't rain much here.
The big difference for me is that 3, 4, & 5 pulls so much harder now.
It's definately not too much gear, most that have done the swap will say that it should have been the stock ratio.
Hey jeff, with my 3.70's and a hard launch i spin all the way threw 1stand 2nd gear too.I have to feather it coming off the line then get into .But im still gone to change it to probably 4.10's. With your 6 speed it might be worse.
