Default Temperature fluctuations?

It was a tad "warm" here for the first time in awile(80 and sunny)...I was sitting at a rather long traffic light and noticed my temp guage...which normally reads around 200 go up to like 240 or so?..after I started going agan it went down...
Anybody else have this occur?...maybe I just didn't notice it before?

Please comment..

Thanks!

Unless you have changed thermostats or fan settings, this sounds like normal operation. With the AC off, the normal temp is about 195 when on the highway (195 deg thermostat determines the min temp of your cooling system.) Once you get to a stop, with no airflow, the temp starts rising, as there is no cooling airflow. At about 220, the 1st cooling fan comes on. At a stop, it won't be enough to cool you down at high ambient temps, so temp keeps rising (although a little slower.) At about 235, the 2nd fan kicks in and now temps start dropping, although, as you noted, they don't really go down much till you get moving again.

Now hear is the odd part. Turn on your AC. If your speed is less than 35mph, both fans go on. If you did this before you came to a stop, the temps might not ever get up to the 230 range. All this is normal operation. The only thing you do to reduce the max temperature is to alter the fan settings using some sort of tuning software or handheld, or get a higher capacity radiator. As I see you live in the northeast, where you rarely get real hot temps (it's been over 90 most of the last 3 weeks, here) leave it stock unless you plan to do some substantial power modifications. Although the temps you cited are higher than older cars, and what you're used to seeing, the LSx type engines were designed for them.
