Default What are the differences in power between long tubes?

I am going to be buying some long tube headers here shortly. I want a header system that will not rust so anything that will is out of the picture. I know that the LG Pros are putting down the best numbers. After those what headers come after that, and so on? I know there have been a lot of header post but no one has every made a list of the top performers to the worst header systems.

Thanks, Shooter.

LG's Pro longtube headers are the best period.

The second best option that is more of a bang for your buck would be Kook's longtubes or the new LG street series headers.

If you want the best bar none then get LG Pro's. If you want a good header that will perform very well for the money Kooks or LG street series.

This the biggest : contest on the forum.

Is one better then the others ?? eveyone has an opnion.

Most ppl found it is the whole package and the TUNER that makes the differnce, not just bolting on one brand of LTs.

Some ppl have put on brand A do to advertsing and hype and everyone saying these are the best, only to find even with the best tunning possible they lost power.

Find a respected tuner in your area and go with what they suggest not what is hyped the most.

I run TPIS ceramic coated and love them. Three years and no rust what so ever

Some people like them, but I do not have any first hand experience with them so I will leave that to someone that does. Whatever you get if you are seriously concerned about rust then I would only buy a stainless header. The coated ones will do allright for a while, but in time they will rust.

Thats what I was saying. Some people love TPIS, SW, etc. Nothing wrong with any of the LT's out there. I have just seen VERY FEW people that were not satisfied with LG or Kooks, and LG consistently makes the highest overall #'s. Any nicely designed LT will give you a nice gain though.

I'm not sure what the others deliver, but I had the Vette Doctors install their American Racing LT headers this week along with a B&B cat-back, and I gained 43 RWHP. I agree with the posters above, I think a lot of this has to do with the tune, and Carmen at the Vette Docs definitely knows his way around a dyno!

Nice gains, I didn't even think about the Vette Doctors. They produce some of the fastest C5's in the country.

You are in California. Make the trip to see Andy at A & A. He will point you in the right direction. You also have to consider what you are going to do in th future as far as mods go.

My kooks + x-pipe have gotten me many compliments, took 3.5 hours to install with me, a good mechanic and a lift. Good luck with your decision.

Default headers

I think as some others do that most long tubes will make about the same HP. Most headers are 1 3/4" and 32" in lenght and dump into 3"
collectors. There cannot be much diffenence in performance. Some of them are 1 7/8" for higher HP engines. I got tired of paying the corvette tax so many of the header companies charge so I went with Jet-Hots nickel ceramic coated ones for less than $600 to my front door.

Do you like them and do they perform over the stock setup? I bet they do as most LT Headers do. I like my TPIS headers and they are not thought of highly and they work just fine on my Sick HP setup, give him some before and after numbers. I can not do this as I went stock of a FI system

I have Kooks 1 7/8" and I like them. However they were not an easy install.

I went though this same thought process about 3 months ago. I went with the LG Street Series (header, x-pipe, and high flow cat). If you are at all on a budget, I don't think this set up could be beat. The headers are stainless. The kit added 30RWHP to my Z06 and was under $1300 shipped to my door.

I believe I migh have gotten more HP from their Pro headers or Kooks, but the cost would have been higher too.

I looked at the Systemax kit you see, as well. It sounded like a great product, but I went with the fact that so many people say LG stands behind their products and gives great service. I was very impressed when I called them with questions. And, just yesterday, I sent them an email inquiring about something else - same day response and very complete -answered my question (so many vendors give canned responses and don't really answer your specific questions). LG has always been 100% complete with answering my questions.

Can you tell I am an LG fan?
