Default Question

This is driving me crazy, so I could use some help...I've got a 98 coupe. There's a small tube/hose (smaller around than a pencil) plugged into the left side of the coupler that joins the air duct to the throttle body. What is that exactly, and what happens if it isn't there? I was looking at replacing the stock accordion coupler with a smooth one and I haven't seen any pictures of smooth couplers with that hose attached. Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like your intake air temperature sensor. I've heard you need to punch a hole in the coupler if it doesn't have one because your car won't run right without it.

The air temp sensor has an elec hookup. Usually that is located somewhere on the air filter cover, but maybe they did something different on the 98 model. When I switched to a Haltech intake, the air bridge came with a hole for the sensorso it could be moved from the filter cover, but the airbridge was made out of nylon plastic. A lot of the smooth air bridges are made from flexable Hi temp silicone rubber. It might be difficult to attach something to it. My original flexable airbridge didnt have anything like you mentioned attached to it. If yours has an elec wire hookup maybe they did it that way on the 98 model. If no elec maybe its a vacume line of some sort. Where does it lead to? Also if you arent the original owner maybe the previous one added it. If you do a search in the archives for air intake installs, there may be a clue. Otherwise you will need something from a service manuel from that year to ID what it is. Good luck and welcome to the fun world of modding.

It is the IAT (intake aire temperature sensor) newer years have it integrated into the MAF ( mass airflow meter)
there are posts on repositioning them....
try an advanced search keywords IAT relocate
search any date, tick current and archives, highlight C5 Corvette 1997-2004
You will find an number of threads on IAT re location...

Fuel pressure regulator vacuum tube. It should run between the coupler accordion and the FP regulator, not the throttle body.

Yep!! There is a kit that you can purchase that re-routes the vacuum supply to the PCV valve fitting . Its called a recurved kit and will (supposedly) re curves the fuel pressure regulator so that it leans the air fuel mixture out for an improved AIR/FUEL ratio. It will eliminate the connection at the accordion tube. look on the Ecklers web Site for it. That is where I got mine for my 98 coupe!
