I've also got the new B&M shifter. Not sure if the name is Precision or Sport but the model number is 45044. I've been very happy with it since installation. No noises and I haven't found it hard to get in any gear. I'd buy it again in a heart beat.

I installed the Hurst, and had the exact same problems. A lot of noise and rattling coming. I bought a new type aftermarket shifter ****, and it was all elimintated. Hope this helps.

Like some others, I simply shortened my stock C5 shifter by about 1". Didn't even have to remove it. The throw is somewhat shorter, as we ex-British cars owners used to say: "the shifter falls readily to hand". Cost..zero. Quiet as ever.

STOCK is best.

For every post of some modified shifter there is a post from someone who is going back to the superior stock shifter.

No rattles from my Six Shooter and it's smooth. Also added a black billiard ball shift ****, 2 1/4" size. Nicccccce.

Have any write-ups on the how-to to share?

I shortened a C6 shifter and installed it on my C5 -- real nice. I cut appx 1.3" from the shaft and threaded 1.0" of the remaining 1.2" with a 9/16-18 die. I used a 2" black round ****.

The stroke (first to second and third to fourth) is appx 3.9" compared to 4.5" for my shortened C5 shifter and a stock C6 shifter, 5.2" for a stock C5 shifter, and 2.9" for a B&M sport shifter. I like the shortened C6 shifter best. The ease of shifting is much closer to stock than to the B&M, and it's as quiet as stock under all conditions. I also left the solid bushings (for the shifter box) from the B&M install in place. This provides a reasonably firm shift feel even though the rubber isolator on the C6 shifter shaft is left in place.

I have the new B&M Precision and it is as quiet as a mouse. I love it.
