Non Corvette throwout bearing help
A friend has a '96 BMW M3, supercharged, lots of engine work.
Anyhow, the throwout bearing is making noise when your foot is off the clutch pedal, a chirping noise that goes away as soon as you put slight pressure on the pedal. This is actually the 4th bearing he has put in. All top quality parts, new pilot bearing etc.
From my old school regular clutch days I'd suspect an adjustment problem, but I'm not up on hyd. linkages. Although my '77 is headed for a T56 LS1 swap soon.
Any help is appreciated,
Thanks,
Frank

I would suspect that the throwout bearing is some how continuously making contact with the pressure plate. The bearing is only designed to spin when the clutch is actually being disengaged. If it is spinning all the time, it will over heat and wear out. I would also make sure that the bearing is contacting the pressure plate fingers evenly when the throw out bearing makes contact. Are you sure that he has the correct parts installed. There are a couple different style GM throw out bearings. If you use the incorrect one, you will have issues. Don't know all the in's and out's with the BMW set up.
Give that a try. There should be some kind of inspection plate or access hole that will allow you to see inside the bell housing.
