Just for clarification, was the OP's question relating to tools for use on the car that are in the toolbox on the trailer, the toolbox in the back of the car, the contents of the toolboxes in the lock-up, the tools in the spare bedroom, those under the stairs, the ones in the basement, or...?
Whoa Whoa. Let's keep it to tools in the garage and let's stay out of the bedroom for now.

This response brings up an interesting question. I received a 2hp Sears compressor for christmas. Parents bought it so I am stuck with it as they look for it each time the come over. Only good for blowing up tires and party balloons. Any suggestion on the LEAST costly air compressor and brand to go with these tools?

What is the difference beside the obvious between 6 pt and 12 pt sockets. I have several deep sockets that aren't deep enough for the sway bar lower clamp. Bolt is too long. Do sockets come in SMLXL size for depth? Also curious why 1/2" and 3/4" why both and if no reason why one over the other?

To save from having redundant tools, I picked up a set of gear drive sockets which are hollow in the center and allow infinite bolt length to pass thru the wrench so you can get to ANY nut. They work real nice for threaded rod and/or shock bolts and other similar applications. They seem to hold up nicely so far and have a lifetime warranty if they fail. However, I still have deep and shallow 6 and 12 pt sockets for normal daily use...

It's a never ending quest

I buy the tools necessary to do my next repair/mod. If I need a specific tool (like a deep metric socket), I usually try to get a set of them. The cost of the tools is usually far less than the labor at a repair shop.

I have all the basic hand tools, and then:

220V 60gal air compressor
Millermatic 170 220V Mig welder
engine hoist
engine stand
14" craftsman chop saw
impact gun, air grinder, air rachet, powder coating gun and oven,
grinder
recipricating saw
craftsman multimeter

I pretty much do all my work except for alignments...haven't tackled that one, but after my last experience with an alignment shop it might be worth doing myself

In the past I've had my exhaust done at an exhaust shop, but think I'm going to do some exhaust modifications at home.

I'll tell you what though, the right tools make a job A LOT easier.....for instance did a clutch on an '01 Camaro....used a 24" extension and a 12" wobble extension. Not going to get it done with just a 6 incher.

6 point sockets fit nuts better, especally lug nuts.

I use the 3/4 driver and have a few adapters for the small sockets.

also have a craftsman 1/8" driver with 2mm to 14 mm sockets kit.

What's in my toolbox for this car? A checkbook and a pen.
