I'm looking at criss-drilled and slotted rotors for my 98 coupe. It's a daily driver, no track stuff. Are there any performance differences between the Wilwood, Baer DecelaRotors, and the GM rotors? Corvettes of Houston has the GM cross-drilled and slotted ones for $269a set , a little more than 1/2 the price of the Wilwood or Baer rotors, but I'm assuming the hats are probably prone to rust like they do on the OEM's. Any opinions would be most appreciated.
Rod, check out sportbrakes.com(forum vendor). Zinc washed rotors for $260.00 for a set of four. One of the best mods I did to my vette. The zinc wash keeps the hats and veins from rusting. Great product!
The best rotor corrosion resistant material is cadmium, as in cad-plated. It's a much more durable coating than zinc. PowerSlot rotors are not cheap, but they will never rust and their slots will never crack, as drilled rotors do. I paid $145 each for mine (cryo-treated), but non-cryo-treated versions are less expensive. The added benefit is that I won't have to replace them every 3 years. Buy them once and forget about them.
Also, remember that "High Performance" should mean better braking:
• Slotted retains 96% of active braking area.
• Cross-drilled and slotted retains only 80-91% of active braking area.
