Default optima or exide

I've been reading the battery posts and want to know if the exide battery is a sealed unit?
I was sold on getting an optima due to its being sealed, until I read some negative posts about them.I do have a battery tender to use on whatever I buy.
My Vette is mostly a weekend driver, although I am on vacation and have been recently using her as a daily driver.
I noticed that my headlights don't always pop right up, is this probably due to the battery going south?

Exide originally developed the spiral-wound technology in the Orbital. IMHO, there is no better battery on the market. My experience with mine, amd others in our club, is that they have been flawless.

the Optima technology is fantastic (and it's the same technology for the Exide). 'Cept the case used for the Optima has a weak spot near the clamp-down point. There's been quite a few pics posted of where it cracks.

Yes, Orbital is a sealed AGM battery:

I just bought one so it's too early to give real feedback.

Its case design appears to be much sturdier than that of the Optima. Make sure you get a fresh one, no matter what the type. My crasher gets Walmart batteries (almost always fresh) and they last 5 years (for $40).

C5s usually take a BCI group 75; the group 78s are a bit larger, but I'd probably get the 75 - its CCAs are plenty and having a bit of space around the battery is a good thing. My orginal ACDelco is a 75.

Sam's Club markets the Exide Select Orbital batteries under their NASCAR XLT line of batteries (XDT34 and XDT35). And, if you have a Sam' Club nearby, you just might find a real bargain in an AGM battery, although I'm not sure that all the Sam's Clubs will have them at this price:

Just bought Exide Orbital XLT 34 for $40.64 @ Sam's

HTH and good luck finding the right battery.

'97 - '00 came with the Group 78. '01+ with the Group 75.
Not sure how well the 78 fits in the '01+, as it is slightly larger.

I got the ORB78DT-84 for my 2K, but as previously stated, 2001+ went to a Group 75. Don't know why or what would have changed on the C5.

Sorry, but to my knowledge Exide makes the NASCAR line of batteries exclusively for Sam's Club. Also, it was CF member VetteDawg in the thread link I posted above that said he bought the battery at this price. I saw another post recently where another member said he also bought one of the NASCAR XLT batteries for around the same price, $45-47 or so with tax as best I remember. I'm not sure what the deal is, but several people said that Sam's is closing the Exide NASCAR batteries out to go to another line of batteries, some even said to Optima. However, I don't know if this is true or not. But at $40-45+ or so, the NASCAR XLT would be quite a buy as these were originally selling at our local Sam's for $95 to $100, depending on the size group. Too, my understanding, which VetteDawg also mentioned in his post, is that not all Sam's are selling the NASCAR XLT batteries at this price, so one should call around first to the Sam's clubs in their area.

Best of luck to you in finding the right battery at a good price!

I don't see how I can shop with Sam's Club online. Do they have an online purchase service, as in ship items that we can pay for through internet? Maybe its just me, I don't see it. I wanna buy one of these batteries. Can anyone post a link here that takes us easily to the online shopping. I guess I'm not so internet savy..

You may already have this link to Sam's Club. In about the center of the page, there is a link to "Shop On-Line". My understanding is that they do not offer delivery on all the items they carry and they may have a limited delivery area. However, I really don't know what their policy is on this. Perhaps someone else here knows and can help you out on this.

Also, up in the very top right hand corner of their home page, there is a Club Locator link. I put a few Bay Area ZIP Codes in to see what clubs might be in that area. I found several (Folsom, Roseville, Citrus Heights, Vacaville, Concord, Sacramento), but don't know how far of a driving distance any of these might be for you. You might try putting in your ZIP to see what you come up with. Also, I would recommend calling first. My understanding is that all Sam's may not carry these, have them in stock or have them at this price.

Below is another recent thread (see Post #9) where Dave1998, who lives somewhere around the York, PA area said he bought one for $47. I noticed that he and VetteDawg both are over toward the right coast. I haven't been to any of our local Sam's lately to see what they are selling them for. Guess I need to go. It will be my luck when I need a battery that they will all be gone.

Second Optima Battery Went Bad!!!

Anyway, best of luck to you in finding one!

The BJs in my area carries the Exide line of batteries including the Exide Nascar Select and Exide Classic. The Select is an 84 Month battery similar to Sam's XLT.

Most good auto parts stores can order just about any battery you want. I get my Orbital's through a local Car Quest, although not at the prices mentioned above. Someone here a few months back mentioned buying them on line from a place close to Chicago. Because it's a sealed battery, there should be no hazardous shipping charges associated with them.

I have three of them in vehicles, including one in my Honda lawn mower. The oldest is going on 3 years with no problems so far...
