Crazy.......yep, been that way for decades......bout the same time I have been racing auto's on and off every way you can without issue .......one change at a time
Steve, How do you think it will fit with the DTE brace in the way???
Plus I now have a little "something" in the way..

SWEET
You would have to do some grinding............maybe ok
BUT
I can't use the DTE brace or deep pan on the 97'...........3" stainless works exhaust is to damn close even with a stock pan
I plan to coat the back exhaust before I put it back on.........lots-o-heat from racing and being close to the trans killed the plastic neutral saftey switch and the weather tight connectors melted a little

I can relate. Mine melted as well - from the blower and the long tubes

I don't even see how the B&M holds three extra quarts.....now you tell me the one you have holds FOUR
I like the idea of getting to use the stock filter but will just keep the B&M for now.
BTW: my LT/Exhaust is coated but I wrapped the section near the tranny for extra heat reduction.....

Steve who are you using for the coating and what type are you using? I'm about to pull my headers to get the air tubes removed and welded shut. I'd like to get the headers and mid-pipes and over axel pipes coated for heat too.
Will do Brian.
I finished up the filling this weekend..........1/2 quart shy of putting in 2 gallons to fill her up .
Only final mod...........hex key too big to fit with the exhaust. I had some other pipe plugs for a 9/16" wrench but..........thats to easy
Fixed it right up
We took it out for a hard 2 hour drive with errands.........manual shifting 90% of the time as I always do.....(down & up) and driving mostly in 2nd to watch the temps up to RL.
On a sunny 85 deg day the trans temp never got over 205 in traffic and 201 down the road at speed. Use to get up to at least 220 with the same driving......time will tell, heck it's lasted 49K miles......the way we drive it its about 25K more than I would have thought by now
Not exactly Off the topic, since we're discussing A4's. I've cpl of questions. How many ppl shift the A4 manually? How often you do it? And under what conditions? I hate the fact you have to push on that thumb button to shift it from "D" to 3rd. I think from "D" to "N" or "R" should have this push button feature. But from "D" to 3rd and visa-versa there should NOT be any requirement of pushing that button.
Also, there's a common thing among auto drivers... we feel that shifting manually screws up the tranny. Is that a fact? I know I messed up my Auto tranny on a Mustand many yrs ago. The rebuild shop told me not to manually shift, if I wanted it to last.
Does anyone have Transgo shift kit? What's its purpose, does it help?
Will do Brian.

Did you put in synthetic, DexIII or Dex VI ? I have DexVI but will be swithing to synthetic per the recommendation of some hard core racers and Rodney at RPM
Also synthetic will probably be better for my new really cool tranny temps since I bypassed the radiator.......... 129-142 with 87 ambients

When stock I used to. Then with H/C and TC I found it only necessary at road racing events.
I don't think the D to Third is a big deal ........ I only throw it into D on the freeway.....never at the track or canyon runs.

I have ALWAYS shifted any auto............from trucks to cars w/o issue. maintain it and its fine. I shift up,down all the time. Not many do but then most don't drive like me either.
Look in your owners manual....it talks about it
Nothing wrong with it........been discussed before many times.
Shift kit is used to firm up a car with a large stall or a early car. These C5s can be program to shift firm and quick with a tune.
DH, Dex VI.........works to good for me to switch.
