Brake Fluid Question...

Default Brake Fluid Question...

My C5 is 8 years old next month and has 65K on it and I've accumulated all the parts for a complete brake overhaul. (DuraStop rotors & pads, new GM rubber brake hoses , and a DupliColor paint job on the rotor hats and calipers, etc...)

As part of this overhaul, I'm going to replace all the old brake fluid and herein lies my question. I have no problem using the same stuff GM put in at the factory, as it served me well for many years, BUT....is there better stuff out there that is in the price range of the original GM juice??

Valvoline synthetic DOT4

stay away from the DOT5 as it isn't compatible with ABS

Valvoline Synpower synthetic formula brake fluid is a borated ester that is DOT 3 and DOT 4.
It has higher boiling point and less water absorption than a ester based DOT 3 fluid.,
I have been using it for over 2 years in my Vettes

It's what I use also and it's readily available.

The valvoline is good for everyday driving. If you plan to track your car then you will have to upgrade to something with a higher dry and wet boiling point.

I run ATE Super Blue Racing all year now.

As noted stay away from DOT 5.

BTW if you have a MN6 this would be a good time to also clean out your clutch reservoir and replace with the Valvoline.

I assume the Valvoline DOT 4, synthetic is compatible with the OEM DOT 3, is that correct?

I use Castol LMA ( Low Moisture Absorbption) in my Pick-up and wifes vette. Castol SRF in the track vette.

You might want to try Ford High Performance Brake Fluid.
I know..I know!
Used by a lot of Motor Home guys and Racers due to High Boiling point, wet and dry, over standard fluid.
Price is right as well. Makes you not mind discarding 3/4 full opened container.
