A while back someone had asked about the Delco 6yr Profesional battery.
I have one in my 97 and the POS leakes as well. Except out of both the+and-
terminals. It was fine all winter but it can't stand the heat.Optima here I come.
That's bad news - when my original battery leaked, they replaced it with a Professional which (knock on wood) is still holding up - looks like an Optima in my future, too
According to the latest Consumer Reports, The DURALAST GOLD (Autozone-$70) out-performed the Interstate ($96), Optima Red Top ($100+), AC Delco ($80) and Everstart (Walmart-$40) in that order.
Also, the free-replacement guarantee for Duralast is 36 months vs. 24 months for the Optima. The total warranty is 96 months (Duralast) and 72 (Optima)
For those in warmer climates, the Duralast number tested is 34DT-DGS.
For your location (North), the Duralast model # tested is 34DT-DGN.
There's no way to tell by the test results, but I was under the impression that a sealed battery is not necessary in late-model Corvettes. The original battery in my recently sold 68 had a vent tube extending out through the battery compartment. However, the battery compartment was behind the driver. A sealed battery was the safe thing to have in that case, but our C5 battery is out of harms way.
Based on Consumer Reports, I put a Duralast from AutoZone in the Stealth last year. No problems. That's what I'll put in the Vette when it's needed. [B
Bought my last AC Delco battery several years ago. My wife's 94 Convertible Vette ate them faster than it eats opti-sparks (opti number 5 going in next week and we have never washed it). I buy just about any brand other than AC Delco and get the same 2-3 years here in Florida. I have gone to Champion, Walmart, and Autozone with the same results. All outlast and have never leaked like the Delco's. Just my personnal experiences.
Just get it over with and buy an Optima. After all, it's what started the 94 in Atlanta (after you helped fix my loose screw Pertronix!). And it's what will go in ACAR when the present battery heads for that great recycling center in the sky!

Not sure what you mean about out of harms way but the C5 battery is just above the computer. If it leaks, things could be quite expensive. It's the Gel cell Optima for me...It makes me feel a lot more secure....
If you take out the battery and look at what is directly underneith.. You not want want to put an acid filled battery right above the main computer.. specially with all the post of acid disasters here
I've been driving cars for 27 years and have yet to have a leaky battery, but then again, there was never a computer beneath any of my other cars. Uh-oh, maybe I'm due!
