My 99 FRC has a BB Route 66 system. The exhuast with the quad tipes gets all kinds of compliments, but is a little to tame sounding . I was thinking about a new system, Corsa or Borla, but now I am wondering if putting on a set of shorty headers would wake up the sytem so it sounded better.
Has anyone who put on shorties noticed that it helped the sound of their system. I know that long tube header make more horsepower and make systems louder, but I live in California and they are illegal.
2 years ago I put B&B shorties on my 2000. I had the B&B Bullet quad-tip cat-back as well. I noticed very little difference (if any) in sound (but the bullets were already pretty loud).
I think for the price of some nice shorties, you would be better off with a nice set of Borla Stingers if a more aggressive sound is what your looking for. Even though, I think it is a very good idea before purchasing any exhaust for sound, you should go to some vette meets and personally listen to different ones. Remember also that an exhaust should be purchased for the sound and not the performance issue because the majority of the exhaust for our cars put out minimal horsepower gains. Personally I have been through about 3 different brands of exhausts and I ended up choosing the most aggressive sounding of them all ...borla straight pipes...not for everyone, but I love it.

Good luck with your decision

did you ever have any issues with codes popping from the header install??? my 2000 generated the po410 code and has been quite the biatch to figure out ever since. got to only come on every month or so now. but duaanngg this sucks.
Go with long tubes rather than the shorties. The sound, with hi-flow cats is awesome
He is in Cali..just as I am..we can't have LT headers for emission reasons. I have Pace Setter shorties on my '97 A4 and they sound great with my setup of hi-flow cats, X-pipe and ZO6 Ti cat back exhaust. I guess if and when they change the law in Cali a lot of us will be going to the LT headers..then again the law around the country may become like Cali's NO LONG TUBE headers allowed

Yes, I have received a code when I had them on, and I kept on receiving it, just like you...something to do with an O2 sensor. I never really got it worked out though, because I ended up switching to LT's. Sorry I can't be of further assistance
I don't have any experiance with shorties on an LS1 f-body or vette.. but... I did install shorties on my buddies 2002 2500 ... and at idle there was almost no difference.... but when he opened the T/b you could tell...
actually point proven when he set the alarm of his neighbor off... (an no he had never done this before)
but like most will tell you.. I say skep the shortys and the mids and go to LT's...
