I know that K&N oil is okay to use on the Halltech Warhead (Remay) synthetic filter, so it may be okay for the Blackwing; hopefully, someone can chime in.....
The Blackwing filter material is synthetic and needs a cleaner specifically made for it. Blackwing sales a cleaner for their air filters. If the filter is new you should not have to worry about cleaning it for approx. 50k miles.
I just got a slp blackwing air filter and I am wondering if I really have to use the blackwing oil or if any other oil will do?
You can get the blackwing cleaning kit at the Corvette Store on this forum. <-----Look Left on the thread page. I just bought one and cleaned and oiled my Blackwing, very easy to do and it looks like new.
...pink and blue will make purple. The correct kit isn't expensive and easy to find from several site vendors. Why use the incorrect product and possibly damage the synthetic filter or void any warranty?
You should only use the Blackwing cleaning kit on the Blackwing. Do NOT use the K&N kit.
Dude, the K&N is for $10-$12, and the Blackwing kit is for $19.99. So, how much are you really saving. You might as well have bought the K&N filter, instead of Blackwing. Now, there's a diff of about $150+ in their prices... THAT would have been some savings. Get the Blackwing kit, nothing else will do. Besides, you only have to do the cleaning in 4 yrs, or 30K - 40K miles, as suggested. Personally, I'd do it every 15K miles. Still once a year not bad... And free filter for life.. That's where your REAL savings are...
Really, if an oil is safe to use on cotton, it is very unlikely to attack synthetic media. The Blackwing instructions warn against using caustic cleaning solutions, but say nothing about using other manufactures' oils.

Don't mix up capacity with a need not to clean it! The Blackwing airflow rating is in excess of 1,400 cfm, and they claim it can hold up to one pound of dirt without restricting flow to the engine. BUT, cleaning annually is essential to keep that dirt from getting into the engine. The filter element COMBINED with the oil treatment is what prevents dirt from getting in, and the oil doesn't work for "years". Use the Donaldson cleaning kit, and don't be agressive when spraying the oil. More in this case, is not better!
