I just baught a 1997 m6 and was woundering what kind of mods will give me the best bang for the buck? It already has a K&N and a Corsa exhuast but that is about it. I'd like to get it to be a consistent 12 second car. I have a wet nos system laying around and was thinking about a 100 shot? I'd still like to get it to be low 12's all engine. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks alot!
hey!! mines a 97...nice ride........i wouldnt push the engine on this years..i read they have weak rod bolts....BUT mine has 100.000 miles on same engine and trans...still runnin strong
Try 3:90 Gears In The Rear
Sticky Tires Are Also Needed
Your Goal Is Not Hard
I Have 115,000 Miles On My A4 1997 And Have Not Had Any Problems With My Short Block With..... Alot..... Of Nitrous Use
sounds good guys ...mine only has 30,000 miles on her and I just want to quicken her up some. Would you guys suggest long tub headers and just a good tune ? Is there any good intake options ? I really have no information on what i can do to this beast to increase it performence wise. How is that skip shift eliminator ? I don't seem to have a problem with the 1-4 thing it hardly ever makes me shift like that. I think from the factory I have 3.42 gears will 3.90's make a huge difference? or should i just go 4.10 ? How hard is it to swap the gears? Thanks for all your help!
LT headers, Vararam and DR's put me at a best of 12.20@114 with an average of 12.5. You will likely run into clutch issues like I have. Once you begin to approach the 11.99 barrier the stock clutch is the weak link. So be prepared to upgrade this also.
The juice will be a great add on. I keep thinking of adding this for giggles myself.
1) Long tube headers- with or with out CATS (+ 25 HP to the wheels)
2) LS6 intake manifold (A few more ponies, great combo with above)
3) High Flow Intake air system (VARARAM)
4) Good Dyno Tune
5) Drag Radials to hook up
I ran a flat 13.1 @ 108 in my stock 97 A4 with run flats...this was with a 2.+ 60' time (could not hook up with run flats)
you will be easily in the 12's with the above set of mods...
I have a 97 torch red A4. I also have a wet system laying around and have been tossing around putting it on with a 75-100 hp shot. The engine will live with a 100 shot, but I wouldn't try the 150 without some other engine mods. Use a window switch for the nitrous control due to the drive by wire and make sure you add a fuel pressure switch too. The "experts say that you don't really want to have the A4 shift on the bottle and that there are programmers that will interrupt the nitrous feed during shifts. Guaranteed 12's all the time with no other mods. As far as bang for the buck, nitrous is unbeatable provided you do your homework and follow the manufacturers instructions to the letter. Chuck.
A good Cam, Long-Tube Headers, a set of gears (3:90 or 4:10), and good tune will get you where you want to be. Keep in mind that with increased power comes decreased traction, so you'll need some good DR's too.

Not trying to hog this post but I have to ask your running 12.20s and all you did was headers,Vararam and DR's no cam or head work or did I miss something, reason for asking is I'm getting ready to purchase a 98 with automatic and would like it to run that good with mods like that.

you will not run 12.20s with only headers, vararam and DRs.
I'm with Weasel. I have LT's, a custom tune, no CATS, and a vararam and my best was a 13.3 @107 with my MN6 but my clutch is slipping pretty badly (115k orig miles) so I might get a bit more just from that. Granted I was running horrible 60ft times with my stock tires and bad clutch, but 12's with just LT's is pretty high hopes.

Yep, the key word being CAM. Most good cams are good for 50-75rwhp on our LS1's when properly tuned (with LT's and good CAI).
