It was pretty bad the first time but If i were to do it again i could probably do it in a day.
My car has a new clutch in it but ive been having problems with some of my gears during high speed shifting.
Im considering a replacement tranny.
Is replacing the transmission simply a matter of dropping the cradle with the tranny unbolting it from the back of the torque tube and putting the new one on.. or does the torque tube also have to come off the engine and the new tranny installed with half the drive train off the car?
As long as you can manage to disconnect the shift linkage without pulling the torque tube, you'll be fine. That's the only hiccup I see - I can't remember if it is reachable with the drivetrain in the car (the linkage that is).
I've done it 3 times but I have no write up. I can give some pointers though.
1. I liked it better when I did it with a lift. Jackstands + garage = teh sux0r
2. Long long long socket extensions FTW
3. I liked taking the whole thing off with TT better. Just tranny and rear-end was too **** heavy for me.
My next try will be just dropping the entire drive train, that could be even easier. (doing engine, tranny, clutch swap)
