I still have the dreaded "Low Fuel level" appearing on the DIC and the analog gauge is reading empty again. There is over 1/2 a tank right now. Question is how often can I add Techron before I run into other problems, right now it's been every other tankful.
Mobil/Exxon are all over around here but they do not appear on the top tier gas lists that I have seen. I've always used Mobil in my 71 and 67 with no problems, but they had 4bbls or tripower and you couldn't beat their sending units with a hammer. Modern technology is getting to me I guess.
To much of a good thing is bad. Techron is a corrosive and should only be use at 3-5K intervals.
Chevron and Texaco fuels contain Techron. How would I reconcile running these fuels containing Techron with its corrosive properties all the time? Has Chevron or Texaco put out something suggesting limited use of their fuels that contain Techron?

Are you kidding?? No petroleum company is going to tell you not to use their gas exclusively.
On the other hand, I think they have to provide fuel with additives at a level that they will not create more problems than they solve.
I don't think you will have any long term problems using Chevron gas with the concentrations of Techron found in the gas. GM even uses Chevron gas as the standard for testing Corvettes. All fuels have some additives, and Techron is among the best for avoiding fuel system problems.
Different things have worked for different people from what i've read. I couldn't get anywhere with Techron or BG44K or any other additives. The only thing that worked for me was Shell V Power.
Shell is the only one that's close and the last two tanks have been Shell
There's your problem...
I experieced the "fuel gauge problem" when I first bought my car, but have not had a problem for close to two years. Before a trip to Florida about a month ago, I filled my tank at the Shell station close to my place of employment. (My tank was completely MT) The "drop to MT" problem happened 3 times on the trip!!
Upon returning, I went back to using Exxon or Chevron as I always have. I just returned from a 900 mile trip, and I didn't have a single occurance.
Techron is not corrosive, but extended use of high concentrations will contaminate the engine oil (from normal ring blowby), which reduces its lubrication performance. The amount of Techron in Chevron gas is not high enough to be a concern, but the concentrate in the bottle is a high dose.
It took about 4 bottles of Techron concentrate to clear-up my fuel level sensor issue in my 01.
