Well, now I am concerned. Today I poured a bottle of Techron in the tank and then immediately filled up with Shell gas. Do you suppose the good and evil forces are duking it out in my tank at this very moment? I'd better take cover...
I still have the dreaded "Low Fuel level" appearing on the DIC and the analog gauge is reading empty again. There is over 1/2 a tank right now. Question is how often can I add Techron before I run into other problems, right now it's been every other tankful.
When I got the fuel guage problem another member suggested using two (2) of the small bottles ($6.99) in the in the first fill-up, then 1 bottle in the second fill-up (recomended for 12 gal. tank). It appeared to work on the first tank but I did the second tank bottle anyway. That was last spring, no problems since. I made sure I took a while to use up the first tank so the fuel guage parts would get an opportunity to soak in the mixture for awhile (about 3 weeks between tankfuls). I do not have any top tier gas stations in my area - no Chevrons anywhere so I,m always using something other than top tier, usually Sunoco or gas from a WaWa mart.

Shell is a high sulfur gasoline. If I can't get Chevron or Texaco, I will use Exxon or Mobil. I haven't had any gas gauge problems.
By the way, if you are using the Chevron additive, make sure that it is the Techron. Chevron makes two or three different kinds of additives...get the bottle that has the name "Techron" on it. The other additives are only injector cleaners and cost significantly less than the Techron.
The problem is the sulpher content of the gasoline. Shell has a high sulpher content; Chevron is a low sulpher content gasoline, plus it has a unique additive that they developed: Techron.
The cost of refining gasoline depends on the sulpher content...the more sulpher that has to be refined out the greater the cost.
Iraqi oil has the lowest sulpher content...the oil companies love Iraqi oil because it's so much cheaper to refine.
By the way, it's Advance Auto that has the 2 for 1 on the Techron. The only thing is it's only for the 12 ounce size.
Although it may be quite obvious to most, DON'T GET GAS WHEN THE STATION IS FILLING THEIR TANKS. All that crap in the bottom of their tanks get stirred up for several hours. Even though there are filters on the pumps, they don't catch all of it. More crap in.. more problems.
Different things have worked for different people from what i've read. I couldn't get anywhere with Techron or BG44K or any other additives. The only thing that worked for me was Shell V Power.
Good luck!

Same with me. I used Chevron exclusively until it started making my gauge go crazy. I started using Shell V Power and it's been fine ever since....70,000 miles and going strong!
