Default Run Light Problem

(This is a duplicate thread to one posted in “General Discussions” on 9/6/06)

Help!!!!!
Concerning my 2001 cpe, about once a week, the (amber) running light on the passenger side continues to fail. Every time that I pull the bulb (from underneath the housing) I find that the bulb glass is destroyed as well, leaving only a bare filament, and of course, the socket.

The strange thing is that when I park the car in the evening, the light is alright, and the next day, after sitting overnight, the problem will have occurred. The driver's side is fine. Of course I've thought of the heat and moisture angle, but I'd still appreciate some further insight and suggestions.

Today, when I bought 2 new bulbs from a local Chevy dealer they had trouble identifying the bulb part #. Subsequently they called somewhere at GM, where the bulb was identified from a complaint file no less. Hmmmmm, makes one wonder.!! Any similar problems out there?

Thanks, c5-pewter

ps. popped another bulb today, suddenly, and while on the road in dry weather. It lasted just over 24 hrs.

Have you checked to see that the bulb is not shorting out? Sometimes a faulty socket base will rotate enough to short out the bulb. This happened to a porch light fixture of mine, not too long ago. Is replacing the receptacle an easy task? If so, you might want to try that.
