just wanted opinions on h/c package. i've got a 01 c5 with stainless works 1 3/4 longtubes 3" off road xpipe/ catback and breathless performance ram air and a custom tune. my goal 4 now is 400rwhp. im looking at the patriot perfomance stage II heads, they seem reasonable on price. what do you guys think?
415/398 rwhp/tq (SAE corrected) 230/232 .595/.585 112, LG LT's, SVO 30 lb inj.,Vararam, ASP pulley, Hurst w/C6 ****, 04 shocks, patriot heads, single exedy with alum flywheel, DTE strut brace, hardened output shaft, euro high wattage headlights
Made that power with the A/F at 12.5, if I was at 13:1 it wouldve been 425 or so rwhp. Not bad for cheapo heads, but some are making these numbers with stock LS6 heads, cam and LT's.
There are a number of different cylinder head options that can get you the power you're looking for. Some items to consider would be how aggressive are you willing to go on the cam profile and where abouts in the power band you would like to make power. Comparing peak dyno numbers is pretty lame.
Like you my goal was 400 hp but I didn't want to change my rev limiter and I wanted the peak hp at or below 6,000 RPM. I don't race the car so was looking that would pull hard in the lower RPM range. I ended up with a VHP cam at 216/226 0.551/0.551 LSA 115 and Dart 205 heads. The cam idles like stock so my wife can still drive the car and there are not issues there. Low RPM driving is stock as well, no need to keep the revs up. I went with a smaller port head to keep the intake velocities high, and the combustion chambers on these heads are 62 cc so my compression went up as well. I could have squoze it more, but didn't favoring reliability over final peak numbers.
The Patriot heads are good heads, you can't go wrong with them. When they have had issues, they have also stood behind their product.
You should be able to hit 400 rwhp with bolt-ons and a cam. Dyno numbers mean NOTHING TO ME, however in the interest of answering your question. I am at 391 rwhp with 3.73 gear, SS3600 T/C and an A4 Trans on a non aggressive tune. If you have a 6 speed you should hit your number with no problem. By the way my car runs 11.60's in the South Florida heat and I still have stock untouched factory LS1 heads. Good Luck you can do this with no problem.
I just finally got my new H/C combo tuned Sunday. '02 Z LG headers, Magnaflow catback. TEA /Trickflow heads milled to 61cc for 10.9 cr. Crane "Z" cam 228/232@112+5, and a Powerbond pulley. Stock intake. 449/423 SAE corrected, and a flat as Kansas torque curve. These are like the AFR heads in price range, but you can do real well with budget heads as well.
i picked up a set of the patriot stage II assembled heads . i got them new in the box at a good price from a board member. im ordering the magicstick 3 cam to go with it. i'll post back when im done with the install and the new tune. it dynoed 339sae before h/c package. i realize alot of people on here could care less about the numbers, but i like to know the "exact" gains i get from bolt ons. it just gives me a piece of mind.
as someone said before its all in how wild you want to go in your setup. personally i have all bolt-ons, stock ls6 with a 232/232 600/600 114 cam and i made 403 rwhp and 384 torque. last weekend i met a guy with a c6. he had stealth2 cam wich is like 215/232(i forget the rest), afr 205's, fast 90 with ls2 90 and the other normal mods. he made 440 and like 400 torque. he was going through a stock catback and you couldnt hardly here it at all.
I did 434/390 to the wheels in a 97 with the following mods:
Ls6 intake
Kooks headers
Kooks x-pipe
Asp pulley
Ported Throttle Body
Livernois Motorsports Stage 2 LS6 heads 2.02/1.55 valves
Livernois Motorsports Stage 2R cam 236/236 .602/.602 LSA 113+0
Vararam with a dirty filter
Rebuilt 2000 LS1 shortblock
Hot Humid Day, so she has more in her for sure.
Not to mention the dyno is known to be a little stingy from what I hear. To give you an Idea how low it reads, a 2006 corvette put down only 445 with a 232/232 .595/.595 cam and same heads and exhaust as mine.
