Default Dynatech Supermaxx converters hollow??

Bought used Dynatech Supermaxx system from MTI, advertised as perfect condition & complete. Just got the one box today which was the X-pipe, mid-pipes and cats, but here's what i see when I look into the cats:

They've been gutted.

I had the exact same system on my Z which I personally installed.

There should be a honeycomb type element filling up the centre cat section.

Guess you may fool any visual inspection for cats, but otherwise, your running a system w/o cats.

Thanks. Yeah thats what I figured. SO far my dealings with MTI hasn't been too good which I am surprised about b/c they are a big place and I thought a reputable dealer. I was originally told they would ship the day I bought them which was 2 Saturdays ago. Than I called back and said they didn't go out until Tuesday and they would email me the tracking #'s. Never got the email..called back after a few days and was given the tracking numbers...looked up the first one and turns out they didn't ship until Friday (almost a week after I paid for them), scheduled to arrive today. Today come home and I only got ONE of the two packages. Track the second and says billing info received but no package received from shipper. The second package is the headers...looks like they never even shipped them. Open the first package and turns out the cats were gutted. uggh. Also, this was advertised here on the forum as 100% complete. Curious to see if the 02 extensions etc are in the box with the headers, b/c the only thing in this box is the pipes and clamps. Left a message for David Coates before but haven't heard back and they are closed now.

Yeah I know Steve. Thats a nice deal for new ones installed, but for $850 shipped I couldnt pass up this used set. Being these systems are all T304 stainless, its not like they wear out anytime soon and the shine when new is short lived anyhow. As far as the cats being hollowed, I guess I'll just have to live with it. If I decide I don't like it or start to get funny smells I might eventually get new cats. To be honest I am hoping to get some credit back from MTI. I think that would be the fair thing for them to do. Being they are a big vendor I am planning on it...

This is dead on. As mentioned, they should have a honeycomb element in the high flow cats. Mine did. Without the cat material, some have had smelly exhausts.

The Dynamaxx are high flow cats and no reason to remove the honeycomb.

Although its unfair to you, and its wrong on MTI's part to not send you what they originally advertised.... itsn't running headers without cats gets you more power though? However, you may not pass smog without cats...

Those Dynatech CATs are extremely high flow. Running them intact would would have had no detectable power loss. Their innards consisted of a metallic substrate which has a 100 cell count per square inch where as the typical cheaper ceramic substrate CAT would have 200+ cell count. They are very similar to the Random Tech metallic cored CAT.

Running w/o cats is a bad idea for both you and the environment.. I would certianly complain. By the time you buy new replacement cats, they won't be much of a bargin.

David Coates at MTI is taking care of me. As of now UPS actually lost the 2nd box which contained the headers and if they can't find it, I will be getting an entire brand new Supermaxx system since they insured it for the total amount it costs new. Here's to hoing they don't find it! lol. If they do find the lost box than I believe David will be shipping me new Dynatech cats.
