My 2001 Z06 with only 2000 miles has an electrical problem. When engine is running the voltmeter reads 13.5-14 volts. Last year I replaced the battery with an Optima red top. Always needs a "jump" to start. Perhaps a defective battery or bad ground, comments/suggestions appreciated.
volts are okay when running. sounds like a "short" glove box light on ? once ya jump it you can drive it all day right ? starts up okay? only when it sits over night the batt is dead? you can disconnect the batt over nite then reattach will it start? if i does something is pulling the batt down [ short] if it is dead its the batt
FOR THE ALT TO CHARGE THE ENGINE HAS TO BE RUNNING IF YOU ONLY HAVE 2000 MILES ON AN 01 YOUR NOT RUNNING THE MOTOR NEAR ENUF. THOSE OPTIMA BATTERIES ALTHOUGH BIG BUCKS SUCK IVE NEVER HEARD ANY THING GOOD ABOUT THEM THEY ARE FOR SHOW. GO GET A BATTERY TENDER THAT TRICKEL CHARGES THE THING WHILE SHE SLEEPS OR FOR GOD SAKES DRIVE THE THING .. YOU NOW THATS WHAT THERE MADE FOR....I NEVER GOT THE OLD LOW MILES THING......I CONSIDER THEM ALL WASTED, WEVE GOT PICTURES FOR HISTORY......
You really are doing your car nor yourself any favors by allowing it to be a "garage queen". Both mechanical and electrical components will suffer from lack of use, plain and simple.
