Need help Corvette guy dazed and confused on tire rplacement. I know i want to replace my goodyear runflats with a non-runflat tire. Ive been shopping for the best tire for the ride, performance and quietness. I have heard the difference between runflatsand non-runflats are suprising. Reason: verbage change
an inexpensive good replacement tire is the firestone wide ovals. about 40% the others cost. the michelins seem to be the most sought after if $$ is not a consideration. lots of people useing lots of tires other than the run flat GY's

Firestone wide ovals are a great choice. They have a nice lip that protects the rim also.
buy z06 size rims and put the goodyear supercar tires that come on the z. dont drive in the rain and replace them every 20k. go boldly and fear no curve
Pretty much anything will be better than the run flats. Keep in mind, though, that there are three major benefits of the run flats: tire life (pretty good,) ability to run when flat (obviously!), and they have progressive break-away...meaning you're never surprised when the car goes beyond maximum traction.
The Michellins, BFGs and Pirellis all have outstanding traction, but I've known many to go to Firestones after all three of these because the C5 has a tendency to break-away more violently with these maximum-grip tires.
On an entirely personal opinion point: I've never been a big fan of Pirellis, because they are specifically designed to wear out quicker (max traction utilizing a softer compound that wears very quickly.) Expensive to buy, and expensive to replace every couple of years.
Kuhmos can be quite good, and Nitto at one time had a good tire for the price that fit C5s. I haven't checked if this tire is still available.
The difference in ride is incredible, but at a very slight loss of turn-in response. Still, side-hopping around corners is greatly reduced and if you buy the right tires, overall handling is much-improved.
The best all-round tires out there (according to numerous tests), is the Goodyear GSD3s - fantastic dry weather traction and unbeatable wet traction. The added bonus is that they do not wear quaickly, despite their tremendous grip.
You really can't go wrong with these made-in-the-US tires.

I totally agree. I've had my GSD3s for over a year now, awesome wet/dry traction and a reasonable wear rate.
Sumitomo HTR-Z II Nice sticky performance tire... You have to go 1 size bigger on the front and rear 255-40-17 on the front and 285-35-18 on the rear. I believe this is the only size they make for our rims.. Tires are a little shorter and wider... This will also bring your axle ratio from 3.15 to a 3.24. Fronts are $100 a piece and Rears are $162 a piece. Total for all 4 tires shipped was $550.00. Here is a link with reviews too http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....1=yes&place=12
I just received my 19/20 wheels and Toyo Proxies (non run-flat) today and only put about 25 miles on them. They are definitely quieter but not a dramatic difference (I did spend 21 years flying in loud airplanes in the Navy and hearing isnt as good as when I was in my 20s. I have an after market exhaust (GHL with 6.5 in. cans). The ride is about the same. Good luck with the search
I bought the Kuhmo ASX all season tires for mine. The longevity is great - but they really don't handle that well. Unless you are planning on the highway 90% of the time - avoid these. They work well in the rain and have a long life. Something has to give - and it's dry traction.
Put Firestones on mine. I have had Pirelli's, Nitto's, Goodyear F1 Supercar. All great tires. Put Firestone Wide Ovals, great tire for the price. Smooth and good in rain. You won't be disappointed ..
