Is this called "run-on"?
Sometimes after I shut the car off it still turns over a couple times after the ignition is off...maybe for a second at the most. Could that be a timing deal or is it normal?

That's called "dieseling" or engine run on. Could be a timing issue - throwing any codes?

Is it an automatic or manual trans?
If it’s manual and you don’t hold the clutch in when you turn it off it could shake, make a noise or sound like a motor run on.
If it’s an automatic and the motors turning after it’s shut off use a higher grade gas or check to see if you’re getting any codes.
Good luck

No, not normal. Sounds like something is out of adjustment.

Timing or wrong fuel being used may cause it also.

Maybe a few more details on the car could help us diagnose your problem. If it is a six speed I would lean towards the Drivetrain noise they all make after turn-off. It sounds like turning over but a little more high pitched. I am guessing its "gear rattle" from the drivetrain. If you are concerned have a compression test and leak down done on the car. "dieseling" can occur because of compression loss, but again I am saying gear rattle.

It's not right. Start diagnosis using premium fuel for a hundred miles, and go from there.
