I recently purchased my C-5, and upon further inspection I realized that the canvass is starting to separate from the lower portion of the rear window glass. The problem is not terrible at this point and overall the top is in good condition so I really don't want to replace it. It looks as if the canvass was originally glued to the window glass at the factory and now the glue is slowly starting to fail, which unfortunately is resulting in the canvass coming loose from the glass surface. Currently only a small portion of the top is separating from the glass, but I would like to correct this problem before it gets out of hand and spreads around the perimeter of the window. I was considering the use of some type of contact cement, or taking the car to an upholstery shop for potential solutions. I am open to suggestions, and any help is greatly appreciated.
Spme have used JB Weld with success. I tryed but didn't work well for long for me and I just replaced my top with an after marked double twill. It is a much nicer top and I got a good deal on the forum. I am glad I just did the replacement.
Hope you have better luck than I did
My repair lasted about 1 year. I used black silicone. The Summer heat (110+) and an impact (when my wife got hit) may have helped speed up the process. I got a new top for X-mas a couple of years ago and will have it put on when the rainy season comes.
I found an upholstery shop in town to do mine for 250 and he gurantees itll stay looking good for 2 years or he will redo it free. He also is gonna try and redo all of the heat seals on the seams of the top where the sticking can be seen being pulled
