I have only been a member of the CF for a short time and already have learned several myths about various performance parts including the most recent myth about D/S brake rotors.
In this thread I invite you to post the truth about commonly held performance based myths. Also if there is a myth that happens to be true please inform us of it…. Sort of a “Mythbusters” CF style.
1. Aftermarket mufflers net more than 5 rwhp than stock
2. Brand X cold air intake makes more hp than Brand Y (they're all about the same)
3. Change your oil every 3000 miles or 3 months, whichever comes first
4. A 160 degree thermostat will solve an overheating problem
5. You can't run tires wider than manufacturer recommendations on stock wheels
* 12" wide rims will not stick out on a non-tubbed C5.
* PCV catch-cans aren't needed.
* The E-Brake always works.
* By paying a premium (vette tax) you will always get a quality product and/or service.
i'm going to have to argue with 16again: for those of use who live in spring, Texas, "Frank's corvettes is a well known and reputable corvette specialist who does excellent work at a down to earth price.
i have a myth of my own if you dont' mind me asking: does having an aftermarket x-pipe affect your power? the guys at corvettes of houston say the crossover in the vettes is smaller than a nickel

That might be true since I have no direct knowledge of that. But I don't think it will help you gain anything unless you have headers. jmho

The stock H-pipe does have a hole about the size of a nickel...i've seen it first hand. As for an x-pipe adding power...i'd have to say no.
