I am considering some mods to my C5 over the winter, and high on the list are Cylinder Heads. My question is should I modify my current heads, or go with an aftermarket set like AFR?
Other mods going in at the same time are long tube headers, cam, and a tune.

Consider all the aftermarket head options and don't limit yourself as there are plenty of strong offerings at affordable price points .
I think the current value leaders are Texas Speed and Patriot Performance and the performance leaders are ETP and TrickFlow.
I would also add the Dart's to the value leaders. They have been putting down some good numbers as cast and have a stronger casting then modified GM casting. No milling for a boost in CR either, since the chamber is 62cc.
Are there many popular H/C packages that people are using?
Head requirements will somewhat be a function of the cam you select. First, you need to list what you want from the package, i.e., low end power, high RPM hp, no cam lope, lots of cam lope, etc. Many of these things are mutually exclusive, for example if you want to push to a higher RPM with a lot of peak power, the car will likely lose some low end grunt. Everything is a trade-off. If you have emissions requirements with a sniffer, than that factors in as well. As you start listing the desired response of the car, certain aspects of the cam will start to become better defined. For example, if you don't want any cam lope at idle, than a cam on a 110 or 112 LSA would be ruled out.

I went with AFR's milled to 62cc plus a 224/228 cam with a 115LSA. The car runs very strong and the idle is smooth with just a hint of lope. Basically I am very happy with the results. Be advised, finding a competent tuner is critical for your ultimate satisfaction after you mod your car.
Go with LIVERNOIS I DID THERE GREAT HEADS THERE GM HEADS AND THERE A FORUM VENDOR
QUIMBO SEEYAAAH
I run the Livernois Stage 1 CNC LS6 heads, 224/228 114 cam, headers, and o/r X-pipe and make very similar power to Quimbo. I'm very happy with this setup!
I think I am going to be selling my heads and cam soon, They are TSP 200cc terminator heads and a MS3 cam. The numbers put out with this combo were 488rwhp 422ft/lb that is on stock 346ci LS1. Both would be cheaper than a set of AFR's and they have less than 100 miles on them, I went with a 402 so I am going bigger. Shooting for 550+ rwhp NA.
AFR's have been and will continue to be an excellent choice for a street/strip car especially when the emphasis is placed on the "street" side of that equation. The high velocity runners enhance every part of the power curve from off idle to redline, increases in fuel economy are commonplace (with small to medium sized cams), and they are one of the only aftermarket castings that are emissions legal and have a CARB # attached.
Do your homework....I dont think there is a single unhappy customer out there and we have shipped quite a few of these in the last couple of years. My stock displacemnet GM shortblock put down 475+ RWHP with perfect driving manners and small street cam. That was fully optimized with all the bolt-on's of course but none the less shows there potential.
Feel free to contact me at AFR to discuss your goals and combination or PM me if its more convenient.
