I was in the market for a new clutch because my ls7 was not holding the power i was putting down at the wheels. Anyways I read some good reviews and some not so good reviews about spec a couple months back. I said screw it i took the chance, so i called spec up talked to a rep and he directed me towards the three plus clutch for my application. So i went ahead and purchased the clutch. I took my chances and broke the clutch in accordingly for 1000 miles. Anyways i went to the track tonight, and what did the clutch do you ask? Slipped in 1st, 2nd, and third. Flywheel was brand new (FYI). I don’t get it the rep told me this clutch would hold up to 800 lbs of tq. HMMM... did they lie? That question is going through my head all night Also you might be wondering if i hot lapped the car, no at least an hour cool down between passes. Brand new clutch!!! This sucks im pissed. Also the track reps told me they saw sparks coming from under my car when the clutch was slipping. Only makes me wonder the rivets on the disc making contact with the flywheel. Also not suppose to happen. Take it from me DO NOT believe everything that you read, because unlike me i saw the good reviews, and took a chance,. Please don’t take that chance with this company because as of Monday morning Spec will be receiving a phone call from me, requesting full reimbursement of my payment and they will also be paying to reinstall a new clutch in my car, because im not getting screwed into that bill again. That’s my .02 on spec hope you enjoyed reading!

After wasting $1800 on another manufacturers dual-disk, I'm happy w/ my SPEC 5.
There's definitely something wrong if you're seeing slip like that. And, btw, it aint just SPEC's that have issues. All clutches do.
First off, it could be a few things. NOT just the fact that the clutch was bad. If there was sparks, then is doesnt sound like it was installed right.
Look at the clutch and see whats wrong.
I have run a spec clutch and it worked great.
Second off. You dont have a snowballs chance in hell getting them to reimburse you for your install.

Its called RACING...
I installed a spec 3+ in a twin turbo Z06 and that guy isn't having any problems with his.
I suspect it’s possible that SPEC has quality control issues. Their feedback seems to be 50% positive and 50% negative. Could some issues be contributed to installation issues?
I have been running a SPEC 3 for two years. I have made over 100 quarter mile passes and have had no issues.
I have a spec 3+ on my car , 463 rwhp 421 rwtq, had it all day at VIR today, over a hundred high stress miles on it not a bit of slip How did you see sparks from a sealed bell housing ?
I have a SPEC III+ in my camaro. It's rated at like 540lbft or something. It holds my power in gear, but I can't powershift. It'll slip bad. I have to let off the gas on shifts, which spools the turbo way down.
Malice, what are you making for power? U say the III+ is rated for 540tq but if you're putting down 600...you know the rest. I would guess a turboed LSx would be at least 450-500rwtq...
I'm looking at a SPEC III+ for my future ~450rwhp setup and I don't want to do the clutch twice!

My SPEC III+ is in my camaro, not my corvette.
The camaro has a turbo V6, which made 470tq at the wheels. The clutch is rated to at least 525lb ft at the flywheel. It ought to hold it, but it doesn't
I know my spec application isn't the same as yours, but I can still kinda testify to SPEC's incompetence. It's too bad they are the only company that make clutches for the 3.8v6.
i just took my chances. I had a stage 2 with 2000 miles and it took a crap. They said there was something on it. Well I intalled it myself and I guess I had gotten something on it and didnt relize. The customer service was great. They got me a pretty good deal on the disc (stage 3) Im still in the break in period but If this clutch goes then I will dump on Spec and go with some one else. My loss, my chance. I race too so I guess theres no excuses. Good Luck in the Future, your in the same boat as alot of us!
i have a 3+ and its going great for me, feels liks a stock clutch and holds up the power in making with my TT setup, which granted doesnt make a ton ot torque or power down low
And people wonder why I am so happy with my $350 ram clutches. What kind of setup are you running to make 800ft/lbs of torque?
Phil,
I have a 427 STS TT. I have well over 800 pounds feet on my low boost setting. Spec V.
AVB, above, has a 408 PTK, he has well over 800 pounds feet on his moderate boost setting as well. Spec V
American HP. 402 Kenne Bell. Let's just call him the, "torque mister," has over 800 pounds feet as well. He is running more boost, but big torque everywhere. He has a Cartek Stage VII.
Those are all on 91 with a can of Torco I think.
We play rough out here.
Needs be installed correctly whatever it is.
Edit Typo.
