I finished installing my motor this weekend. went to start it up, nothin, just a clicking sound from the starter. im pretty sure i hooked it up the way it suppose to be. but why is it not starting. Also, the positive battery cable got REAL hot and started slightly smoking. the ground wire was also a lil warm, but the red one was sizzling hot! what does this mean???
so im thinkin, maybe the wires on the starter are not correct?
or a wire is touching the headers and grounding itself to the chassis.
anyone have any thoughts on this... all would be appreciated!

The warm wires could either be from a loose connection or pulling too much amperage. Although, typically the ground wire is the one that gets fried if you pull alot of amps. Maybe your wires are reversed....
well guys, the car is being towed off to DRM tommorow, Doug will take care of it.
I am getting very excited!!! He should have the car done by this week! tuned and ready to roll..i havn't driven the car more then 2500 miles this whole summer... i got abotu 3 weeks or so to drive her till i have to put it away for winter... ohh well...

If you reversed the wires on the starter, that can be very bad.
one time I had a battery that didn't have any + or- markings in the plastic.
my wife accidentally left the interior lights on, and the battery ran down.
She called AAA and they came out to jump her battery, and didn't pay attention. He reversed the jumper cables to try to start it.
1. he blew the fusible links at the starter.
2. the battery was dead, and started to charge up backwards, only got to 5 volts when it spewed.
3. the fuel pump was running backwards
4. the alternator blew the 5th diode that keeps your battery from discharging when the key is off. had to put in a rebuild kit
5. The starter was turning backwards for a short time, and chipped the starter brushes and arced the commutator so I had to replace it.
6. the fuses blew for the dash, dash lights, mileage computer, and the receiver for the key fob.
7. The abs computer worked for about 3 weeks then failed.
so be careful when you mess with positive and negative
CoupeGuy: HOLY CRAP... i hope i didn't blow all that! all my dash stuff works fine soo far.. i have power to everything... we'll see.. DRM will finish it up. its getting towed today to him! Can't wait...
