[Help] GM bra install! (WTF are those plug things?!?!?)
I feel like an idiot (especially after installing intake and exhaust myself) but I am having trouble with the GM bra install.
The bra came with 4 bolts (button head) and 4 wierd rubber plugs. The instructions, rather fuzzily and blurrily (are those words), seem to indicate removing two of the screws in each tirewell. Each hole is replaced the union of the bolt and rubber plug. The rubber does expand, per instruction manual, but seems to seperate the black plastic lining from the fender. It looks terrible and not at all like the picture. Am I missing something?
Christoph
PS. I noticed some retainer clips between the fender and liner plastic, but it does not seem right to have to remove those, especially because it would be really hard to.
I think you are on the right track. The clips that you mention must be removed from the top and bottom holes, but not the middle.
It is very hard to do and they most certainly will fall into the front of the body. I removed an additional screw that is located in further and at the bottom.
This allowed me to force my hand into the cavity there and retrieve the clips.
The black plug like pieces will expand as you tighten the screws. The expansion occurs behind the body thus providing the holding power.
Huh. You'd think they would have mentioned that in the instructions. Alright, time to break out the needle nose pliers and a beer. Thanks for the insight.
I simply went to a Marine Hardware store and bought some screw snaps (#8) similar to the ones they provide you with for use under the front fascia and put them in. Use a little liquid detergent to help them screw in (don't remove the metal clips if you using this method). A lot easier than dealing with the rubber booties, etc. :yesnod:
