Default A4 Transmission

What type of transmission mods can I do to my 1999 with the A4 transmission ??

Are there any shift kits availiable ??
What about different trans. fluids ??

My vett is a daily driver so I don't want to go too far out, but I'm just not all that happy with how it shifts.

I really wanted a 6-speed, but I couldn't have everything, so I settled for the auto.
What I'd really like to do is change the A4 to a 6 speed, but I that is going to be a bit too much.

What rearend do you have? If you have the 2.73 upgrade to a 3.42. I did and it makes all the difference in the world. You can pick a used one up for around $500. Install and setting the shift points will run another $500 or so. If you want a 6 speed swap it can be done but then you still might be dealing with the rearend issue.

I have the RPO code G92 which means I have the Performance Axle Ratio 3.15 ... I still don't like the way it shifts, maybe I don't know how to drive it.

I changed my 3:15s to 3:42s and wish I had done it sooner. As far as the tranny goes, you can tweak the shift points, the tranny pressure, and the shift times by a hand held programmer or have a tuner do it.

I looked in to a shift kit and basically was told by the transmission man that a daily driver that stays on the street doesn't need it.

I bought a used Hypertech for $125.00 and used that to firm the shifts. It does a good job at that and gives you some more HP and torque also.

sorry if I get a little off subject here but... isn't the rear end carrier the same for a4/mn6?

I'm looking to swap my rear end with the 342s but as for the tranny itself, I used my Hypertech and set it for 50% harder shifts. It seems to be a good setting for a quick shift during normal driving and a very snappy shift under acceleration. (ie, pitch it sideways)

Sounds like he doesn't want the job. The shift kit helps with longevity and is an excellent mod on a DD

You have two choices...

1) Get yourself to a local corvette tuner and they can adjust the shift points, speed and firmness via the computer.

2) Have a shift kit installed

I have option #1 on my car, am probably going to move to option #2 to help w/transmission longevity.

I notice the A4 tranny in my 04 Z51 does not have a hard firm shift!

The a4 is working fine, but i want more snap with my shifts.

What kit number did you install in your 1999 C5 ??

I can't seem to find the "A4" transmission in the catalog, is it known by a different number ??

4L60E-HD2
Sorry, I said it wrong. It's listed under REPROGRAMMING kits, not under SHIFT kits.
I also turned off torque managment.

4L60E-HD2
4L60E 93-05 Crisp muscle car or full race shifts. Puts the driver in command. Holds 1st, 2nd, 3rd to any speed.
Backshifts to 3rd, 2nd & 1st by moving the lever..
98 up: If vehicle has Torque Management this kit will not make hard shifts.

Except for the "Crisp muscle car or full race shifts", doesn't the stock A4 do all of this already?
