Default Oil pump install?

Getting ready to install alot of go fast parts. I have heard you can do an oil pump in the ls1 w/ pulling the oil pan. I have seen the ls1 how to on an f-body but I assume there are probably a few diffrences on the c5. I have the radiator and all the covers out of the car. Balancer is off and im just waiting for my oil pump and timing set from lpe. Now for f-body it says you only have to pull water pump. Is it the same on the c-5. Also do you have to drop the pan a little bit to wiggle p/u out of the pump. Just want a heads up from those of you who have done it in the car so I dont waste time. Thanks in advance.

w/ the front cover off, you don't touch the pan, there are 10 bolts on the cover, 2 of which are vertical through the oil pan

same oil pump from the f-body, but the pickup uses the outboard hole for the pickup tube, MUCH EASIER

be sure to get the new O-ring from GM(12557752), immerse in oil before installing

install the pickup tube before torquing the pump securely to the block

have a 10mm ratchet wrench for the pickup tube

No need to drop the pan at all. Water pump has to come off before the front cover will come off. Main thing to watch out for is reinstalling the oil pickup tube. You want to be sure you push the oil pickup tube in by hand before you start the little bolt. Don't use the bolt to pull the oil pickup tube into the oil pump! Doing so can damage the pickup tube o-ring and the pickup tube.

Don't drop the little bolt in the oil pan either!

I shoved a bunch of shop rags into the oil pan just in case I did drop the pickup bolt it wouldn't fall into the pan.
