Default Steel vs Titanium retainers.

I'll be installing a set of 918 Comp springs and want to know is in necessary to install Ti retainers or would the GM steel retainers be just as good? I won't be racing and running high RPMs. My MODS is for a DD.
Thanks,
SLPRC5

Titanium shouldn't be necessary. I think those springs will work fine with the stock steel and the setup you will be installing. I would normally have suggested the Comp steel ones, but someone just had some problems with them so best stick with the stockers. I would however consider spending about $30 for machined locks rather than the stamped locks, since these are the only things holding the retainers in place and I think are good piece of mind for the limited money they cost.

Just check and be sure the new springs fits the retainer the same as the stock springs.

My stock retainers fit kinda loose in the 918 springs compared to the comp retainers but they also fit loose in the stock springs. I figured since since they fit the same in the 918s and the stock , they would be fine. Anybody want to buy some comp retainers?

I think the stockers are fine also, but so are the locks. There are a lot of companies that use the stock locks for their aftermarket spring kits with great results and reliability. How many times have you seen one fail?

I used the stock everything other than the springs. It's ran longer this way than with the complete comp setup

Marc..everyone is saying us the "stock retainers and machined locks" are machine locks going to replace the "keepers"?
Do you order the "stock retainers and machine locks" from the dealer?
Thanks,
Deno

Now will these machined locks take the place of the retainer "keepers"? Also are the stock retainers and these machined locks also a dealer item?
Thanks,

I would use the retainers that are on your engine . I'm sure that there is nothing wrong with yours. I used the stock locks because they have been with that retainer for 50k so why change it. I'm not saying that machined locks are not good but if you are going to use the 918 springs then the stock locks will work just fine. Now if you were using dual springs then I would use differant locks because they will not accept the stock retainers

the machined locks are the keepers. I don't know if you can get them from a dealer or not.

Ok Marc..got what you mean....those LS6 heads have less than 10K on them so I would guess the retainers are fine and the keepes, but for added insurance I'll do like vettenuts said and put the machine locked one on. thanks
BTW nicer avitar you have up now...

Comp makes machined locks, the dealer will only sell the stock stamped locks.
