My car gets two warning lights when I drive over railroad tracks. Service ABS and service Traction control. What should I be looking for? Loose sensor? loose connection? Is this a common problem? My car is a 2002 Coupe A4. The lights reset themselves when the car is turned off. Next time I go over the tracks they come back on.
Check & post your codes. There are a number of possible causes.
Also, do a search, there are numerous posts about this and numerous solutions, depending on cause.
Keep us informed since alot of us have had this problem and some still do. I for one have been trying to chase down the cure for a while. Thanks for any information you find.
Bill Curlee posted a great How To on checking grounds to fix this problem. I would guess that this is more likely than a component failure as you're getting the snag when the car is being jolted. Just a guess though.
My Traction control does not selct on or off at all. When the ASR button is pressed nothing happens. I know handling is active when the rear wont break traction, but I can't deselect this, even though I shouldn't

Can you post your DIC codes. Could be a module has failed. In my case the problem was intermittent and they replaced the EBCM. The codes should give a clue whether its EBCM, BMPV or wheel sensor.

Pull the switch panel and take a look at the connections on the bottom side. It could be something as simple as a wire off a connector.
Looks like the TCS is sensitive on this car. Every time i turn off the TCS/AHS to do a few donuts right after i get done going around a few times it gives me the same error "service active handling".
Even though it was off during the donuts. But when i turn off the car and turn it back on everything is fine
If it happens only after a shock event, you most likely have a bad connection somewhere in the harness/s. The front wheel sensors have a sh!& load of female connections that can go bad. The female pin fails and looses connection. I have a picture of a good and bad connector:
This is the jumper harness that has a tendency to go bad:
Here is the connector:
The connector on the LEFT is new. The one on the right is BAD!!!!
Post your codes and we can narrow it down to which wheel or component.
Bill, do you have a picture/instructions where we can find that jumper on the car? I think I have a similar problem? Does anyone have the GM part # so I could order a new one, seems like it would be pretty cheap.
I'm suddenly getting the same two warnings. My battery was completely dead (I mean as if the battery had been removed) after I charged the battery back up, then started the car, the warnings appeared. Never had them before.
