I used the wrong term...my Lincoln has advance track. It's traction control. Any ideas??? Scott
Traction Control (TC), Active Handling (AH), and the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) are all controlled by the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM). The EBCM is a computer that uses input from many sources (wheel speed sensors, an accelerometer, a yaw sensor, the Vehicle Speed Sensor, etc.) to do its work. There are MANY things that could cause the EBCM to show a problem with TC.
Fortunately when there is a problem sensed by any of the computers in the car (PCM, BCM, EBCM, etc.) they store a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). A DTC can be looked up in the Service Manual and that shows a set of procedures to follow to find and fix the problem.
To display the DTC information, go to the following link:
Write down the codes shown (they start with a letter such as P or C or B) and note also whether they end with a C or H (or sometimes both) which shows if the code is Current or History.
Post the DTCs and someone will be able to help you in figuring out what is wrong. Also either update your profile or post what model year vehicle the codes are from.
