Default I need help....!! Z06 Engine .. I think??

Ok here it comes...

I work at a Land Rover Garage in the UK...

We have had in a Defender 90 that someone has fitted with a Corvette lump.. We think from a Z06 2004 (5.7 Litre) with a Delphi MEFI-4 Management System and GM? Turbo 400 Box??

We were only supposed to be fixing a couple of lamps and Steering joints... But when we pointed out the list of 38 mistakes with the engine install and running we have now got a big job on our hands.. .!!

I have been given the job of finding out:

1. How to plumb the PCV system as some of the hoses are missing and there are ends left to atmosphere.

2. Find a tool or software to tune the engine (MEFI-4 Management)

3. What the Base Idle and Throttle Butterfly settings should be. (As some idiot has ground down the throttle stop amongst other stupid things..!!)

I have spoken to a couple of "Specialists" in the uk and sent a few emails.. but after reading this forum for a while I think you guys have forgotten more tech info than most "specialists" will ever bother to learn..!!!

I hope someone takes pitty on me as I really need the help..!!

Thanks

Leon

should be a number cast into the front top of the pass. head, 243 would be LS6 heads, if you could get the vin # off the back of the block that would verify the cam(the '01-04 LS1/6's share the same PN block)

if the 8th letter of the vin=S, then it's Z06 derived, unless it's a crate motor

I'll send Englandgreen over as a translator

Thanks for that..!! I will check in the morning..!! (23.56 here at the moment!!)

I don't suppose that you would have diagrams of the PCV plumbing (if I find out what motor it is) as all the hoses have been pulled off and put in a box...!!

Thanks again

Yep,,,I bet EG knows what a "LUMP" is right off the bat!!!

Leon

The PCV block connection is on the drivers side of the engine. Look all the way in the back of the engine. There should be a black plastic fitting where the hose that connect to the PCV block fitting should go. Here is a write up that explains how GM changed it on 2001 + C5's:

The LS6's application on the Corvette Z06 creates additional demands on the crankcase ventilation system. The Z06 is capable of cornering at more than 1 lateral "g" requiring a special high-performance ventilation system.

To prepare the Z06 for full-on driving, the LS6's PCV system is moved into the engine's V, or valley. The unique aluminum valley cover has composite oil separating baffles and PCV plumbing incorporated. All of this reduces oil consumption during high-performance driving - and as an added benefit also reduces the amount of external plumbing, eliminating potential oil leak sources.

It goes from the back of the valley cover, runs forward along the passengers side of the head and it enters the throttle body on the passengers side through a special PCV rubber fitting that incorporates the PCV valve into the fitting that connects to the side of the intake manifold just aft of where the TB connects to the intake.

Next question: "What the Base Idle and Throttle Butterfly settings should be. (As some idiot has ground down the throttle stop amongst other stupid things..!!)

GM "CORVETTE" C5 throttle body should be THROTTLE BY WIRE" meaning that there shouldn't be any throttle cables or throttle stops. Its controlled by electronics and has a very unique electronic set up.
If someone changed that TB set up to a LS-1 F body (Camareo/Firebird) then you could have a TB with a throttle cable and throttle stops. In that case, I would say that the idle RPM should be set to right around 750.

I do not know what a MEFI-4 Management system is so I GOOGLED it.

Here is a website that you can use to contact someone who might help you: http://www.azspeed-marine.com/

If it is in deed an LS6,,, wen I get back from my Holiday trip, I will take any amount of pictures that you need to get this thing back on the road!

Leon

I have always had a soft spot in my heart for people who have GM cars especially CORVETTE out of country!! Working on the C5 and C6 is difficult enough to work on in country even if you have the tools and unlimited parts. I can only imagine what its like in a foreign country!!

If I can provide it to you i will.

Good luck and keep on fixing!!!
