C5 alternator questions
i'm planning a sound system that will require an RMS draw of 70amps and a peak draw of 140amps.
question#1: can a stock alternator support this kind of power demands?
question#2: if not, what aftermarket High Output alternators do you reccomend?

Post this in the Audio Forum. I think the C5's have an issue with aftermarket alternators because they have 3 (or was it 4) wires, that communicate with the BCM. If any of these are missing from a replacement alternator, the car goes crazy...

The PCM controls the alternator on C5s. It sends a signal to the alternator which turns the charge function on and off. The PCM also monitors the alternator and if it doesn't get the correct response it will set an error code.

Evil-Twin is the resident guru on alternators and problems associated with replacing them in C5's. Suggest you PM him and ask for advice or at least do a search in the archives udner his name and the keyword alternator
