Default Starting Promblem

Yes when i turn the key to the run postion to try and start it it make a clicking noise down by the fuse box on the passenger floor board and it will not turn over. Has anyone had this problem or know how to fix it.

battery connections good? if you turn on the headlights and try and crank,do they flicker along with your ticking,do they dim or go dim or do they stay bright??

The theft deterrent relay is in the passenger footwell area and enables the ignition circuit. It's possible the relay is the problem. Part of the troubleshooting procedure is to disconnect the relay and short the contacts for the ignition circuit to bypass it.

If you access the passenger footwell compartment, there will be 3 relays directly above the BCM. The theft deterrent relay is the third on (on the far right). To bypass the relay you need to jumper pins C1 (red) to A2 (Purple).

Note - this is from a 2000 service manual.

Just had to replace a starter on mine. Check for 12v. at the solenoid terminal (smaller diameter wire) when you turn the key to start. This is on the same track as jumping the TDR, but is a bit more definitive. If you've got a good battery and voltage to the solenoid, it's probably time for a starter. Make sure the battery and starter connections are tight first.
