I'm installing a Pioneer AVIC-D2 in my C5 z06 and was wondering if anyone could tell me where the Reverse Gear Signal Input wire is. I tried searching and could only find it for a C6. Thanks for the help
I think that all you need to do is to tap into the wire that feeds the backup lights. Just pull out an inner tailight and stick a small flashlight in the hole and you can see the wiring that goes to the lights.
Thread resurrection... to answer the question for any future readers that could have used this answer, like myself today!
NO The backup circuit never comes inside the vehicle. I broke out the Helms manual wiring diagrams and traced everything. The backup switch is on the trans (outside the cabin) - feeds up to the PCM (engine bay), and then back down the wiring harness along the tunnel, goes above the differential, and then splits out in the bumper to the backup lights. I tried tapping circuit #38 at the BCM (passenger footwell, connector C2, pin 1, dk blue wire) but all this does is provide a constant (key-on) +12 volts to the relay circuit - never changes voltage - so that doesn't work.
The best thing to do (and easiest access) is to just tap the green wire going to one of the backup light bulbs. Then run the wire all the way back up to the front of the vehicle interior. Accessing the wire at any point between the PCM and the backup lamp would require getting access to the wiring harness running down the tunnel, which ain't exactly easy unless you already got your exhaust and tunnel plate out.
Wish I'd seen this one earlier as I could have saved you some effort
If anyone else is planning to fit one, I posted a How To fit a Pioneer AVIC N1 in the C5 Tech DIY sticky post #16. It has detailed instructions on how to fit that type of satnav/audio unit.
I routed the reverse wire around the back of the glove box, up through the door post, along the door sill and up the rear door post, around the convertible top housing and through the rear side wall of the boot behind the carpet. I then drilled a small hole through the bulkhead into the rear bumper area and fed the wire through. To attach to the reversing light circuit you need to remove the number plate housing. The screws are obvious.
In that case, you might be able to tap into the circuit at the underhood fuse block. Micro relay 38.
Yes, you can. I used a mini atm fuse tap and placed it on the #87 leg of the relay then soldered a wire onto the tap, covered the solder joint with some shrink tube and then ran the wire through the firewall with the main harness behind the battery. The following image was taken prior to soldering the wire onto the fuse tap. The PICO 1593QT fuse tap can be purchased on Amazon for about $6 or less possibly elsewhere.
Well, it certainly beats the alternative (previous post) and no need to splice into the factory harness, causing corrosion problems later on. And it's only a couple feet from the radio. So, "Mother Mary" to you. LOL
Solid info here, regardless off the dates, BUT aside from tying into the relay on post #9, the wire runs from the rev-trany switch to/thru the engine fuse box then to the rev-lights, we'd all like to splice that wire after the fuse box so where the heck is that wire? But guess the relay thing works? I'll be giving it a go soon.
Well, time to resurrect this thread again If you have the auto-dimming mirror, you can get a reverse signal from the connector on the back of the mirror (green wire). I suspect that wire is there so the mirror can un-dim when backing up. I removed the pin, attached my wire and reinserted it, which secures the wire in place.

Mine was a 1997 with no auto-dimming mirror so for later years with other options… YMMV. I’ve moved onto a C8 these days!
