Not hard to remove. 4 nuts to remove and then disconnect the electrical connectors. Make sure you cover the door jamb with a towel before removing the seat from the car - it is easy to scratch the jamb with the legs of the seat.

The front two bolts are covered by bolt guards that require you to remove the two push pull pins and then slide the guard straight forward (toward the front of the car) and off they come. You might want to unclip the electrical connection from the seat frame before you disconnect it, it makes it a little easier.

Why take out the seat if you are having a belt issue?

Default belt

the belt is locked up having a hard time getting to it , would make it easier if seat was removed

it might, but I see this often, just SLOWLY pull/release the belt, you'll need to do this about 50x's sometimes so it can retract

GM has a TSB on this problem, they will give you retractor guides, maybe

It sounds like the belt was put into cinch mode (pulled all the way out by somebody) and then accidentally folded over as it retracted into the take up reel (a common problem before the recall) and jammed the reel. One way to resolve this problem is with some patience. The belt can be pushed down into the take up reel to see if the cinch feature will release (it releases when the belt is all the way in the reel). This may work quickly or may take a couple of hours of pushing and gently pulling the belt back out many times over. This happened once with my wife when she was riding with me in my 97. I played with it for 15 minutes or so and gave up. She felt guilty and kept after it for an hour and it came loose.

GM had a recall to fix this problem. They inserted guides in the take up reel which kept a folded belt from getting inside the reel and jamming it. You do not want to give up the cinch feature since it is great when you are pushing the car hard through corners and want the belt to hold you in place.

Just move the power seat all the way forward, the torx bolt is right there. Very simple to remove the belt without removing the seat.

ok thanks guys! The belt will retract fine but it takes about 10 minutes to pull out enough belt to fasten pulls out an inch at a time
